Music Video - Ghosts

I liked it very much. And by the way I preferred the alternative cut. But there were some things from the original cut that I also liked and that could perhaps be on the alternative cut. I think the idea of framing the musicians out of the shots or at least extremely unbalanced compositions were cool and fun, but then went on for too long and it didn't bring anything new, so what was exciting and cool at the beginning became quite tedious and uninteresting at the end.

It seems that I saw the drummer and the Bass player more often and better than the lead singer, that I never saw clearly at all. Maybe that's why I thought that some of the shots from the original cut should have found a way into your alternative cut. Like, keep the first half as your alternative cut and then slowly blend in with the original cut, almost as the film is slowly opening up as the song progresses.

Just a thought anyway. But I nonetheless enjoyed your boldness in such radical framing options. Well done.

Just a quick note: If I were you I wouldn't make the point on your Viemo description that you tried to make a video out of "crap" footage and that it all came together by chance, it just doesn't sound right... Even if that is the case, it doesn't do anything for you or the video... like you weren't trying very hard, or you couldn't be bothered to do it right... just stand by it and be proud of it!

Ok here we go.

I liked the music. It has energy is interesting, but the clip leaves me wondering why i do not get to see the performers?
I' am looking at all sorts of background elements. Not all that interesting IMHO. Color grading etc was nice, music is cool but i
dont like looking at broken windows in the background. Made me go: come on man move the camera.

i watched the other version too and liked that a lot better. I am interested in why you would want to make that alternative cut
in which you seem to move the human aspect to the background in favour of less dynamic elements?

Thankyou both.

@Nuno - Ive since deleted that description, I never did look at it like that

@johne - In honesty, the original brief for this video, was that the band wanted very little framing of them, and to look "home-movieish" & Super8. My alternative cut was the original submission to the band, where they realised they did want to be seen in it more. I guess I prefer this version, not because of the camera work, as it certainly isnt my best, but I learnt alot from the post-production, and to sit back and look and think "I made that" still gives me chills (:

Hey Tim

My criticism was not in anyway a judgement as in good or bad. As a viewer i just want to see more of the people in the band. If they want to be out of the frame (which is strange for a band :) ) Maybe it would have been better to shoot them out of focus
always more interesting than a piece of background. Funny that once they saw the first cut they wanted to be in it more. "Vanitas vanitatum et omnia vanitas". Anyway kudo's to you for making the vid. Nice work.
