Music Video - Furious "Movie Life"

I shot, co-directed and edited this music video while in Highschool, was 17 at the time. It was my first "paid" job, though it was more for experience then money.

Budget was about 100$ (not including help from extras, locations etc)
this went to food, a 2200watt generator and L-lens rentals.

Equipment:
(hacked) t2i
DIY dolly
24-70 f2.8 L (rented)
16-35 f2.8 L (rented)
2200watt generator (rented)
(2) 1000watt redhead open face 3200k lights
(1) 6bank china made florescent fixture 5500K

as you can see, the equipment was limited and so was our time, we covered three locations in one day making it a 13hour shoot.

It was extremely stressful given i was the youngest one there, and everyone was coming to ME for help/suggestions/complaints etc.

Please critique to the fullest! Test my film-making knowledge as I am pretty sure I can answer almost all questions with confidence.

Quality looks great and nice use of lighting. What I did not like at all was the directing. You have a serious song and the comedy aspect of the project just made it scream very low budget. In my opinion you should have kept it professional all the way through. Secondly it truly bothers me when people say I only had xxx amount of budget, yet you have clubs, girls, cars, lighting etc. If you add all of that up that's what makes a budget, even if the artist provided everything, your false claim of a lack of a budget is not warranted.

With all that said I think the project looked great, but you need to work on your Directing skills to bring the best of a song out which I feel you did not succeed at.

Overall visuals 7.5 out of 10
Directing and conveying the message to the viewer 4 out of 10

Judging the project overall I would say 6 out of 10

thank you for critiquing! this is exactly what i wanted to hear! To be completely honest I agree with you 100%. The 'comedy' aspect of the music video was, in fact, the artists idea and he felt very strongly about it. I did not have the will power to over-ride his 'vision' so i went with it.

as for the budget, I guess your right, though everyone came just to be in it and they were all local, and the lights are mine...

I aspire to be a cameraman/DP/Cinematographer, so my directing skills need lots of work as it is not a skill I am interested in.
