So here is my second music video that i have filmed using the canon t2i using the kit lens. The only light source we used were natural light and lighting from an iphone :Drogar-Shock(DBG):

This music video WAS story boarded with specific shots and such but my "crew" would not co-operate =/ Anyways! i directed most of it even if i was in the music video i just got my friend to hold the camera and told him to do the things i wanted him to do. Feedback is APPRECIATED! Do not sugar coat your feedback because it will not help me at all

PS. I do not understand how you would give a music video a script and to make it tell a story. Someone please clarify and give some examples please :D thank you in advance

AND! How in the world do you light up a night time shot? Would a LED Cold shoe mount work?

A lot better than your first video you posted, + it was edited better. You still have the problem though of when someone is rapping the other person is still making weird faces and gestures, kind of like they are still not comfortable in front of the camera.

Keep it cool and relax.... Lets see another project as this one shows progress, but still not there yet.

This might be totally different to what you were trying to go for but maybe this can give you some visual inspiration:

It uses photographs mostly but you can see how although they hold on some photo's, no two are the same, and they're all really interesting shots... In your video you mostly just stuck to switching between three shots when hes rapping and your not really keeping the interest there. I dont think you particularly need a story but the trade off is that there has to be some visual impact to keep the viewer watching.

And kit wise, my personal $0.02 would be buy a 50mm f1.8 for the low light stuff rather than a light. maybe im wrong but the led light would give you a little bit of a documentary feel which might not be what you want. and the 50mm would give you a big step up in image quality and you would be able to film in natural low light.

Im just waffling now but i hope at least some of that made sense.
But its good trying to do a music video, they're pretty hard to get right. And the more you do the better you get so keep going with them

Yes! i see what you are getting at and i just need to know how to incorporate "filler" shots into the video. Thanks for the advice and the i will be planning to get the 50mm 1.8 lens soon!

Correct me if im wrong but.... the canon 50mm f1.8 is a prime lens right?? :p

Thanks! I really appreciate the feedback and we're still trying to cut loose and be able to perform in front of people.

shows potential. needs more lighting, more camera movement. probably want to avoid panning with the t2i.

Would you recommend shooting at a higher fps when panning?

I also vote better lenses before lighting. However, both are pretty important.

If you want to have fun, get a nikon 1.4 50mm (about the same price as the nifty fifty, but much better quality, especially in low light). Then, get a bright utility light and backlight your subject.
Not front light, you're not going for documentary here. Backlight, or side at least, should give your video an artistic look. Be creative with it and have fun!

How would you mount a nikon lens onto a canon body?

and if i put a light on the side wouldnt it create a shadow on the other side of the person?? This may sound like a dumb question but, how would you setup lights in a open field? for example a field with no electrical plugs?

You definitely need to spend more time on this forum, man!
Vintage Nikon glass is all the rage for great optics on the cheap:

All you really need is this to make it work:

Just make sure you don't get the newer automatic style ones, because you won't be able to adjust the aperture at all.

And would you care if there is a shadow on the ground? First of all, it probably wouldn't be in your shot. Second of all, who says that's a bad thing? Contrasty shadows and creative lighting are often sought after music video styles.
Its just a suggestion, might not be your style, just trying to help you do something that looks a little more interesting than an on-camera light, if you go that route.

EDIT: Also, not to sound obnoxious or anything, but isn't there a separate sub-section for us to post footage and get feedback, so that it doesn't clutter up the main parts of the forum?
