Music Film - "Stranger" by EndlessBlue

Wow Monte... wow!

Great use of the camera and the effects. Must have taken forever. Very artistic and moody. I can't do any of that so not really much I can critique. It was beautiful.

Looking forward to seeing something with a story!

Excellent, wonderfully moody eye candy, and some really nice moves, and not to mention the amount of time you spent in post! ..some really good colorations.

looking very good. Was this shot with the 100 or 100a, and what extra equipment if any did you use

100A, rented – my first time with the any iteration of the DVX so it was a little sketchy at first, but hey – it all worked out.

I also used 1 worklight stand (2 lights, 500 w each) and a 60w little fill light, mostly used for the interior of the house when we’re up close to her

Dolly and 16 feet of track

Bogen Misc. Tripod

Wonderful!

I just didn't like the song :(

Awww – well, erm… what can I say – it’s sassy and voxy :P (the music that is)

And… well – I don’t know what those words mean but that’s how it was described to me

this was excellent...questions from the rookie

did you do all the color correction in post?

How much of it did you shoot in 60i? Was it a mix match of 24p and 60i?

In a general sense, what were the settings on the camera? (like CINE, etc)

And how do you do that "light flash effect". Like when an object is white, and the flash seems to grow from that area?

Well – there were a few times where I set the white balance differently – and that created a different aesthetic when I worked on correcting it in post, but for the most part yes. It’s important to me atleast, to know what I’m looking for when I go out there, so I can make those types of changes

I shot the half of the street scenes, and some of the footage of the flashback in 60i, because I needed to slow her down in post. Then once she was slowed down I converted it all to 24p – the general public can’t tell the difference in resolution.

I actually got camera settings from Horse (horsefilms) because I’d never used the camera before, so I asked him what would give me the most resolution, and **** with the information the least – settings were something like this:

Master ped -6
Detail something or other: Thin

Cinegamma (or something of the like): Off

A few other things that I can’t seem to recall, haven’t touched a DVX since…

The flash? Experimentation

Monte-

Great product man. The combination of the shooting and post techniques were extremely complimentary. I can't imagine how much time you spent in post on that thing. Nice job, take care.

Mr. Durden - Well, I just answered you in a bit greater detail via PM - but anywho, (to help bump my thread) - many of the shots you are referencing here, actually didn't have any "special" properties - mostly just lighting and luck I suppose

KPMC - Too long - especially since a harddrive crashed RIGHT AFTER I finished all the rotoing - carpel tunnel HERE I COME!

Yeah, great job. I hate everything so I thought I'd be ripping it to shreds but I was dead wrong. You got a lot of great shots there. I don't have much to complain about (I hate when that happens). I'm impressed. Thumbs up.

What a completely gay song, your skill is immense and i love alot of the shots but please next time make something that is pleasing video AND audio wise, great shots, awesome use of the dvx, song sucks balls. Thanks though.

Uh, huh. I see. Hmmm. But how do you REALLY feel about the music?

Serious props on the video. I'd never seen or heard of it before until I clicked on your banner to check it out. Very impressed, and glad to see you did all that in Vegas. It's always cool to see what people can do with that NLE ... it's the one I use & love it also.

Norm - Thanks for the e-props, that's why the banner's there (I know I miss a TON of the stuff in the screengrabs forum, just hard to find time to look at it all, unless it's screengrabs)

monte that was great. can see the effort. you will be out of minnesota in no time if you keep it up. it is all about the work so dont let your peers get you down. "just do the work".. is the best advice i ever had. keep it up, you are rocking.

Hmm...so much here...

Technically it kicks-ass...wish I could do some of that myself...I've spent the last year learning the technical video side of things.

But...my specialties are writing shortstories, scripts, and creating keyboard based soundtracks...so from that point of view, I'm going to attempt to give you some constructive feedback.

The music needs work....it never takes off...it's like a song that's constantly stuck in 2nd gear. The images, while they seemed to connect on occassion with the music, I can't help but think that it could've been better.

Again, cine-technically, it blows me away on so many levels...but, the scenery, the locations, just don't match the sounds. So, maybe it's my post-meditative state of mind this morning, but, I think you tried to elicite emotions with the video that just weren't there in the soundtrack.

As a musician, songs need to build in intensity as you go along...this one just doesn't...it just sits there. I can't help but wonder what an awesome and obviously talented videographer like could produce with a better supporting song and soundtrack. Bet you could hit it out of the park with some more intense and energetic music man.

Prof. D.

Monte,
I use Vegas as well. I'm wondering if you could give us a breakdown as to how to video was color corrected. Did you overlay and use a Gaussian blur? I'm into the whole color correcting thing myself and I'm eager to learn some of your tricks. The colors and quality were very impressive.

i liked most of it except for the yellow shots when the girl is blueish... that was really out of the tone of the video. didnt want to watch the video after that, but i did and i think everything else looks great... i cant understand why u put those yellow clips in? my 2c..
