Mr. Barry, what are the results?

I just got a report back and the tests seemed to go well.. all cameras had strengths and all had weaknesses. Im very happy to hear that the Noise issue everyone has been yelling about with the HVX is evident in most of the cameras in the test, and that all and all they all looked very good when used side by side.

Ill let Barry fill in the details when hes got a chance.

I was there. My favorite was lamp.

I love lamp.

[edit: Alright. So that's way to random for anybody to get what I mean. Let's just say testing 6 cameras side by side while deigning to stay accurate and objective is hard, tiring work. After a while my brain resembled Brick Tamland's.

I sort of thought the noise from the HVX everybody's complaining about looked kind of filmish. Is that a word? Film-like. That's better. Filmish?! What the f*** am I thinking?? Put the bottle down!
Anyway, looks like we'll just have to suck up a little noise and live with it. Actually looks like fine grain to me... like 70's 16mm Chainsaw Massacre type grain. That genre happens to be my bag, so I think I'll be pretty damn happy. Now if you absolutely need a pretty much noise-free image in low light, I'd say go rent a Varicam.

yes.. in normal light we dont get that noise.. im talking about the low light dark images.. just like film, you get grain.

and Im pretty excited for barry to report on just how the HVX kicked everyone's ass in the sensitivity department.

Given there where 7 heavy industry professionals there today, Adam Wilt, Rush H, Evin Grant, Barry Green, Shannon Rawls, Jay N.. at least the reports will come from a large handful of sources... so things shouldnt be skewed.

Well, charts and tests are great but I'll have a much better idea of what this little Wunder Cam can do for real on Mon. I have no less than 24 shooting hours booked for this thing this weekend. A national commercial on Fri. a series of 3 industrials all shot on green screen on Sat. and a promo for Hustler stores on Sun. night. I'll do my best to post what I can but I'm paying for my HVX in one weekend and I haven't even taken delivery yet.

P.S. I talked to the post house today about delivering a drive and the editor and tech were thrilled about not to have to digitize tapes.

Only once did the agency producer ask about having master tapes and I told her the Raid drive was redundant and that I would keep a backup till the delivery was confirmed.

Tape is dead!

Evinsky,
What's your workflo going to be on those jobs?
P2 cards downloaded into laptop or Firewire direct to laptop via FCP?
Mac or PC?
and then are you keeping one copy on your own disk then handing off another to client?
Let us know how that works. Seems like a Green screen would be suitable for direct to computer.

Also if you don't mind talking about it - how much are you charging for HVX + monitors, laptops, P2's etc whatever you need to make the shoot work?
(Not intrested in your own rate here.)

Thanks and good luck blazing the way.
