MQ Tape shortage hits EVS

Re: MQ Tape shortage hits EVS

I've heard so many conflicting arguments. I just stick with the MQ's and am done with it. No hassle, a bit more $, but better than finding out "Oh wait, there is a huge difference, and you've now got tape gunk in your camera".

Re: MQ Tape shortage hits EVS

Hell, I would stick with the MQ as well, but now I am forced to switch to the PQ. I ordered last week becasue I have a shoot this weekend and I just ran out of tapes. NOw I find out that my order couldn't be filled because of an MQ shortage, at least at EVS. So I guess I'll try the PQ and go back to the MQ tapes later.

Hey Dan, all they have to do is order it. We too can ship overnite. The tape, for us, is warehoused in Kent Washington and can be anywhere in the US 24 hours later. We really do like to sell the stuff more than warehouse it. ;-)

Best,

Re: MQ Tape shortage hits EVS

I just received a box of 50 MQ's on friday. They didn't run out after all.

All the best

Fidel.

Re: MQ Tape shortage hits EVS

Trust me, as an employee of EVS, we seriously do not like being out of stock of one of our best sellers for whatever reason. We shall, however, have several thousand units right after Labor Day.

But if for some reason we don't, I blame El Nino. And the fact that my toaster wasn't Y2K compliant. I'm still upset about that one.

Re: MQ Tape shortage hits EVS

Actually this is interesting cause I got a call from our supplier (Tape Central) and he said Panasonic is raising the prices on all their MiniDV stock by almost a dollar a tape... I'm calling BS on him though.

Re: MQ Tape shortage hits EVS

i heard somewhere that fuji tape stock was dry lube. I tried and tried unsuccesfuly to find the info on the internet . Does anyone here know?? It sure would be nice to go to Bestbuy and buy fuji at a fraction of the price

Anyone??

Re: MQ Tape shortage hits EVS

...For that matter it would be interesting to know if Panasonic actually manufactures their own tape or if it comes of a Fuji (or other) production line with Panny branding.

And despite that it actually is my real name (how utterly anglo is Thomas Collin Mack?!?!), my acting career never quite took off. Perhaps it was when I told Aaron Spelling to get some botox and Speilberg to stop making "crappy little kid's movies".

Re: MQ Tape shortage hits EVS

I've never had a problem ordering tapes from these guys:

www.tapestockonline.com/mini-dv.html

Prices seem reasonable and tapes always show up in a few days. I order mostly the 63MQ and 83MQ.

I have used 83MQ and 83PQ in LP ( :o gasp!) mode in my consumer Panasonic and my DVX100a without any problems whatsoever after many 10s of hours of recording seminars, therapy sessions, and Aikido classes. Of course my tapes get run through the systems exactly twice. Once to record and once to transfer to disk. Then they get archived. These are usually multiple tape events and I need to minimize tape changes.

I do use the 63MQ at SP for controlled and staged events - just in case. I rarely use up a tape in these situations.

Maybe it's just the accountants doing silly things as the end of the fiscal year approaches. ;)

Re: MQ Tape shortage hits EVS

Received my order last week....all is well at EVS with MQs now, apparently.

Re: MQ Tape shortage hits EVS

We do have several thousand MQ's now. Sorry for the trouble guys. :)
