Laptop: Windows XP running Adobe OnLocation, QT 7.4
Desktop: MacPro 8-Core, Intel Xeon, 8GB ram, Mac OSX 10.4.11, FCP 6.02, QT 7.4
Workflow: Record from HVX to OnLocation to Win XP Laptop as .MOV files, then drop into MacPro FCP for editing
Is anyone out there successfully recording from the HVX to a Windows XP laptop in Quicktime format (mov files), and then moving those to a Mac for FCP editing?
I've been pulling my hair out trying to get OnLocation QT files to work properly with my FCP Studio 2 set-up. Everything works fine from dropping the files into my timeline and even editing to my heart's content.
The problem comes when I try to export my sequence to a self-contained Quicktime movie - my Mac keeps crashing!!! If I chop my sequence down to a minute or two, it sometimes exports. But any sequence of appreciable length (say over 8-10 minutes) the computer freezes and demands a reboot. My MacPro works fine for all other types of media in the universe and I have had no other problems save this one.
I tried installing the Raylight Encoder on my Win XP laptop but that makes no difference. I've tested hours and hours of footage with this workflow and always get the same results. I've tried different firewire drives, different cables - same problem.
The issue is either with OnLocation on the Win XP laptop or with FCP/QT on the MacPro.
Anyone have any ideas what to try next? I'm at my wits end! Arrghhhhh!
