Movie Trailer

Re: Movie Trailer

Hey Chris...

I know you well from your wedding work...nice to see you expanding. Glad things are going well for you.

I watched the Trailer Edit and wow...I'm used to white dresses coming from you...not body parts and guns. Looks like you're having a blast. I look forward to seeing more from you.

Re: Movie Trailer

Thanks man,

I actually have dropped the wedding videos all together, aside from cutting Tori Spelling and Kate Beckinsale's weddings not to long ago.

Trying to break into music video, hopefully we will have something shortly.

regards,

chris

Thanks bro, I wish they had had more of the movie shot, but you know how it goes sometimes.

Wow! Lucky man! If I send you my picture can you replace Kates husbands head with mine so I can watch it over and over again? Drool.

Bet you had to use some creative editing to keep tori's whole head in the frame.

Seriously though...Congratz on the big switch. Keep us updated!

Re: Movie Trailer

While I'm relatively new to dvxuser.com, I have to say that of all the clips I've viewed, I can't believe I was lit up as much about your wedding reel as I was. I think this really speaks to the fact that good filmmaking, and good editing can take something as typical as a 'wedding video' and make it a work of art.

I've decided, that for all of the narrative clips that we all have posted on here, solid filmmaking, from start to finish can net something like this... even if it is, simply put, a wedding video (take that as a compliment).

From the score and the shooting style... I'd have to say that if Michael Mann shot a wedding... it would look something like this.

Well done. Great inspiration truely does come in the strangest packages.

Re: Movie Trailer

Hey dude,
This is easily one of the best wedding demos I have seen in terms of shots.
What kind of rig do you use as far as steady-cam usage? And are you shooting squeezed or an anamorphic adaptor?
Very nice stuff.

Not to speak for C-mac, but I believe most, if not all of his stuff is shot handheld. (am I wrong? It's been a while)

Yeah, when his demo was shown, the collective event industry dropped it's jaw and felt just a little inferior :(

Re: Movie Trailer

Sorry if this seems like I am singling this project out...

I have recently seen trailers for three features that were shot on the Varicam. I haven't liked the look of any of them. However, I recently saw Collateral which is 80% HD and I thought it was fantastic looking. It wasn't as beautiful as film, but it was something that aesthetically served the film very well.

After seeing several trailers shot on the Varicam I would not shoot a feature with it....or if I did, I would pay the big bucks for a very accomplished DP who could do really good work with it. I guess having a good DP on any format is key, I just haven't been liking the look of features shot on the Varicam one bit.

Re: Movie Trailer

The wedding video looks like a creepy funeral, I tell you that!
Damn, do people get happy seeing this???

Come on, the video makes me sad as hell. I just don't understand the choice of music and dark style, like a king is dying or something.

Tell me, what motivates you doing this style for a wedding?

I would say 85% of this demo was handheld with a PD150. It was shot in standard 4:3 and cropped in editing.

Collateral looked fantastic, but I believe they used a combination on The Viper - Sony CineAlta - and Varicam. I think they used the Varicam only during the Taxi crash scene, but I'm not 100% on this so correct me if I'm wrong. I know for a fact they used the Sony Cinealta and the Viper.

Hey, I just edited that footage in the "EG Trailer" The first half is all Varicam, the second half is heavy with DVX100 footage. I think the Varicam footage looks excellent if shot well. Remember it is pretty compressed, you can capure it over Firewire.

I like the way Varicam footage looks, would I prefer 35mm, yes, I work with what I'm given.

To be perfectly honest this demo was the last thing I did before closing down my wedding business and moving to LA. It was designed more to help me get work in LA than sell weddings. With that said, my previous demo was also very cinematic in style, with a more uplifting song. If you are speaking of the shooting style rather than the score to this piece my motivation "was" an average wedding package price of somewhere close to $8000. I guess my client's liked a larger than life feeling.

Let's face it, I didn't do weddings for the love of it, I did them to make money. That's why I left weddings.

You are correct, I handhold most everything, it's killer on the back :( I tried out a steadicam flyer and a glidecam V8 at DV Expo West. I liked the Steadicam much better, but it was 3x the price and I'm not ready lay that money down, when I want to direct not shoot.

Re: Movie Trailer

just out of curiosity, have you not gotten much networking from doing the two celeb weddings you mentioned.

Ok, for some kind of promo reel I understand the style and heavyness of the video. It's not that I not like it, but I expect more happyness with weddings, thats all.
It looks very good indeed, very big!

I guess if I had done them from begining to end I would have been able to network, but I just edited them and did not deal with them directly :( Maybe some day, somehow, somewhere it will pay off.
