I had this Film Lab project thing in my high school Film Production class where we had to take the song Shine by Rachmaninov and make a silent film off of it. Had to shoot within 3-4 class periods - 170 minutes approximately during school. Due to the time restrictions (and the fact that we had no use for HD on this project) the film was shot on SD Mini DV tape. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Hey Everyone,

I was the DP on this video. Just wanted to note some cinematography specs on the film if none of you mind.

I shot the film with the default scene file 6 and the shutter at 180.0 degrees for most, but we did bump the shutter up at 350.0d in a few shots.

I manually white balanced only inside the all white room at the beginning and used the 3200K preset for the rest. we shot also at the 1:78:1 ratio as well.

As for editing salil can clue you in there as he was the editor, but i do know it was cut on Final Cut Pro 5 (if im not correct salil please let me know).

The film was shot all handheld, me and salil both agreed in the time we had to shoot and the coverage we were going to get, that we had no need to shoot on stixs.

I did however feel a bit down when it was decided against using the P2 card. I at first had the mind set of shooting 1:78:1 DVCPRO 50, but it was voted against and we shot good old mini dv tape!

its still good for not being HD and done in 170minutes. Does your high school have HVXs for students to use?

No, the HVX we used was mine. I own an HVX200 and 16 gb P2 card.

Our school has sony handycams and movie maker....oh and one special final cut pro system........yeah sucks

I think you mean 1.78:1? 1 to 78 to 1 would be a strange aspect ratio indeed... :)

I thought this looked really good for just being DV. Nice job with the DP work, there were some creative shots in there...especially for being shot in a couple hours.
