mounting solutions for EVF

What kind of mounting solutions have you guys liked for EVF's on the F3?
I've been using a cheap 6" Noga type arm screwed into the 1/4-20 holes on the F3 with my smallHD.
It works but it tends to get a little loose- "wanky " isn't a bad description and I am a little wary of the weight on my F3 bodies screw holes

The wooden camera UVF mount for the Red ( I would try the 4") together with one of their cheese plates or Berkey's looks pretty good but frankly I am sick of being nickel and dimed to death on the F3's accessories - it adds up. Anything cheap that works?

Thanks to small HD though for finally replacing their eyecup and coupling it with just the battery adapter I wanted for my Sony L batts all at a reasonable price.

I tried many arm screw before and this one is the last one i use. one SOLID piece of gear.

Only $60. I used it with my SmallHD 4 EVF

Thanks Bubble - Maybe I'll try that . Its certainly beats $500.

Can I assume it would be equally solid just going into the screw holes on the camera rather than the rails adapter ?

@nate: it will not work without the the MCS cage. :)

I really doubt that. Looks like it has a 15mm rod sticking out.

I myself have a set of Berkey plates up top already, with a 15mm clamp going sideways over the lens for the EVF mount I've already cobbled together.

If you're starting from scratch, you'll certainly have to buy a thing or two to make it work, but I think a lot of us already have a collection of tinker toys to get this thing mounted.

[edit: I have a call into Letus right now to confirm that the rod on the bracket is indeed 15mm, instead of just merely looking like 15mm]

Would like to find something that actually works and doesn't cost $500. I'm disgusted with Noga arms.

I hate to say it Ned, but something good is going to cost.

Back when I had my Red, I had to pony up $1100 to get the ET bracket, which was the only thing that worked.

By the way, Letus support has confirmed with me that the part of their bracket that I know I can interface with is 19mm instead of 15mm. Between the Berkey plate and a Zacuto and/or Berkey clamp, I know this can go where it needs to go.

Ditto, hence this thread. Embarrassing Public Lament:

Buy an expensive camera with a POS viewfinder then its $1500 for a TV logic 5.6"+ batts, then $750 for a small HD + batts, then does it have to be $500 for a bracket and another pile for a cheese plate? Oh yeah, then there's $3800 for a gamma curve. Then a 4:2:2 recorder... will it ever slow down?.. oh I guess when the camera's obsolete in another year or 2.

Sure its still a great deal of a camera and you always want professional tools, but it does add up. Of course I do adore my TV Logic.

so far I'm going to try that Tilta arm first.

Nate, Do you have a picture of that Letus bracket on an F3, I'm having a hard time visualizing how it works.

No. To my knowledge nobody has done it yet. But there's nothing about besides the last part that connects to the Letus cage that is specialized for their cage.

Here's it's predecessor, the Element Technica Red EVF bracket:

And here's the bracket Panavision makes for Alexas in their inventory:

You can't really see it well, in the second pic, but both of these are basically the same, ET's bracket was based on the bracket Panavision came up with to put Accuscene EVFs on Genesises. And now Letus/Hurlbut has reworked the same design again, but thankfully gotten the price down

I learned this lesson with my Red. Luckily I was very busy with work and the never ending conga line of AKS I needed, I could get when I needed it, for the most part.

When I sold my Red in May of 2010, I added up everything that lived in the body case (body, baseplates, top rod adapters, 1 drive, EVF, drive shock mount, EVF bracket, cables) and it came to $38K. This was the bare minimum need to provide a "body package" for rental in Los Angeles and not get laughed at.

35mm-class motion picture cameras, everything gets bigger, more expensive. I do my best to not smile at the folks raving about Scarlets for $10K, because $10K is merely the beginning of a very large expenditure if you are not a hobbyist.

@nate: hehehe...Letus? man, i bought the FS-100 cage 2 months ago (i was the first one that bought it) and i end up have to buy the base plate and other stuff for it to work. (MCS lines are design to work with MCS ONLY). I also have berkey plate and i'm telling you, they are not align together. Try it.

Interesting. But - if looks don't deceive, it appears to be a 15mm rod that's used to connect the arm to the MCS rig -

So how about attaching that 15mm rod to this - http://www.berkeysystem.com/store/sony-pmw-f3-nex-fs-100-accessories/accessory-mounting-blocks/ $26

Or: Perhaps this - http://www.berkeysystem.com/store/sony-pmw-f3-nex-fs-100-accessories/cross-clamp-15mm/ $50

Fairly economical if it works - Total cost at $500 or less, excluding shipping and tax.

I will try it. Because I know how to make it work, I already have the pieces. :cheesy:
