Most tasteless film in history?

"Oh, what!? No!" -- My literal reaction. Unnecessary last shot in that trailer for sure. I feel dirty. I'm going to go take a shower.

Don't think I've ever been speechless from a trailer. I think this one goes a little too far.

I honestly find him to be one of the most fascinating people making films.
That said, I don't think I've ever seen one of his movies, and definitely don't plan to start with this one.

I actually think it helps us to see movies that show the reality of what happened. People need a wakeup call.

I agree.

If we're talking about dolphins slaughtered in a hidden cove sharing geography with a city that puts on a huge pro-dolphin facade.

Or if we're talking about the violence between the factions in Rwanda.

Or if we're talking about Jesus on the cross.

There are plenty of topics that have needed visceral, unblinking exploration. Then there are those that have been beaten like the dead horses they are.

Really, another Holocaust film? Really? And by this guy?

No.

Really, another Holocaust film? Really? And by this guy?

No.

He may be going for that Oscar. But seriously, people do seem to love a film he did called "Rampage." I don't hate his films. I just don't enjoy them. Most of the hate thrown at him comes from video game nerds. His non video game films such as "Tunnel Rats" and "Rampage" do have a base. He's been very articulate about what happens with the video game film. He gets ten million and the production company wants a hundred mill film back. I liked "Alone in the Dark" but keep in mind I never played the game. I do know Far Cry was on cable recently and looked like something I would watch in the 90's.

This trailer was hard to sit through. Ironically if I didn't know it was about the Holocaust and someone said it's the new zombie film, it would've been like, "Whatever." The guard at the door tells the whole story (I think that's Uwe actually) human life is being destroyed and he's like, "I need a nap." But that is the level a group of people sunk too at one point in human history. It's real life and it is scary.

I don't know the director's motives, but he did a good job of making me cower at the though of watching some of the trailer. I'm not a big gore fan even though I do like some horror films, but I know that's all BS. This was based on real events and I didn't want to face that. If that's what he wanted to do: Mission Accomplished. Even though there wasn't a ton of gore or any of that I simply didn't like what was going on in that room as the camera moved through that hole. The actors did a great job if nothing else. Great juxtaposition between the guard and the prisoner. For me the trailer was effective.

But because of that I probably would never see this. I like movies where people take out vampires or zombie or menacingly evil bad guys. I don't like seeing real suffering or depictions of it (particularly when they're this graphic). Ironically Hitler is one of the villains in some of my up coming stories, so seeing this makes me want to write those stories more. But all we can really do is make up stories about taking down Hitler before he causes "more" trouble, but we really can't erase what he really did.

Well most of the hate this guy gets nowadays isn't for the films he make, but for that moronic boxing match he set up.

I'm sure most of you know about it, but for those of you who don't, this guy got sick of film websites writing about how bad his video game movies were and how bad he was at directing, so he decided to challenge his reviewers to fight him in the ring.

So a lot of them went up, thinking it was a stunt, that he wanted some publicity and it could be a fun thing to do.

It wasn't. And he's a boxer.

i think a revisit to "Pink Flamingos" might be in order. And i don't mean YouTube clips...the whole movie.

Funny, Pink Flamingos was the first thing I thought of, seeing the thread title...

...I haven't seen enough to determine whether I find the film objectionable, or not. From the trailer it looks like another one of those 'banality of evil' exercises, but maybe there will be more to it than that.

Although I already have misgivings about his research. Teeth were extracted post-mortem for the gold content in their fillings; you're not going to find very many fillings in a young person's incisors. That bit did create a bit of a gore-for-the-sake-of-gore vibe, which is not cause for optimism. Being blessed with a strong sense of frugality, the death camp operators usually did not place single small children in ovens, but rather loaded them for maximum efficiency. It's a little bit distressing that he can't even get the perversity of the details right...

I think if I want to watch a film about the horrors of the holocaust I'll watch a documentary. At least it will be more factually accurate, as Max pointed out.

Not sure if this is just a film that's trying to shock people or not. Looks that way to me.

My impression is, it's not really the film that's meant to shock as much as he wants to shock people with himself as the director.

Why else would he put himself in the trailer, and in that way?

I mean, he plays on his own reputation for the films he make, it's almost like he's in a reality show that doesn't exist.
