Just a heads up for mac folks, You'll need old system software to copy the firmware update file to an SD in your computer. (I have a HPX 170). If your system version is more recent than 10.4 the update feature won't appear for you in your camera. I have system 10.4.11 and that wouldn't work. Find someone with a PC to download the file and drag the files to the SD for you. Then take that to the camera and it will work. The install instructions do state that on a Mac you have to have system 10.4 or older. Kinda of a drag.

Actually, I just tried unzipping in Tiger (10.4.11) before writing to the SD card, and it worked fine. So I guess when they say 10.4, they mean ALL the flavors of 10.4.x. But it does not work if you unzip the file in 10.5.7. There's a little footnote encouraging you to click on a link to contact Panasonic if all you have is Leopard (10.5.x).
Good luck!

firmware update - Mac

I thought this was fixed by using stuffit to unzip the zipped file rather than the Mac.

I ran a test and David is right, it will work if you download the file still zipped and then open with stuffit. Problem is if your Safari browser is set to "open safe files after downloading" the file will appear already unzipped. So, fix by going to Safari preferences >General > unclick "open safe files after downloading" and then use stuffit to open the resulting file and drag the folder called "private" to your SD card.

Still have to say this procedure to get the firmware to a Mac is a drag. If I didn't know about this forum I would be scratching my head. So thanks dvx forum.

Somebody mentioned earlier in the thread about updating through USB. Is this possible? I don't see anything on Panasonics website about it, and I don't have a SD card bigger than 64 MB that is not SDHC.

Thanks.

Good to hear, just bought my 32gig :)

Do I need to update my PCS060 portable drive?

Thanks

The HMC150 updates through USB. The P2 cameras all update through the SD/SDHC slot. You can use up to a 4GB SDHC card in an HVX.
