I just saw this like a few minutes ago. Trying to find details on it. People say its a fan film but dang, this looks good. Fight scenes, are eh, but I'll watch it.

Not sure if its real but I do love the look and feel of it.

I'm guessing it's a pitching pilot.

I like the casting of White, and the dude playing Cage had some impressive moves. Deadpool was more Baraka in the end fight in Wolverine, not sure how they connect Baraka with Capoeira, but who knows? Maybe they just had a concept for Baraka, and a good capoeirista and put the two together.

Not completely crazy for the style of it, I'd rather see a Big Trouble In Little China type Mortal Kombat movie, but I'll take anything over WS Anderson.

At least this is obviously from someone with a vision and a unique take on it.

I don't know, there was some good stuff in this, but a lot of it was... off some ways. The dude playing Jax was pretty well cast, and the overall cinematography and direction was pretty good if a bit overdone. Although, the lighting and mood did feel a bit too SAW-like in some way.

I really am not digging the fact that they are dumping so much about the games' mythology. Where is Outworld? Where is Liu Kang? Reptile is not a mythical outworld creature but some guy with genetic and birth defects? WTF? Same thing with Baraka. I really don't like the direction they are going in with the plot and characters. Seven of Nine for Sonya Blade?

Also, the way they had to work in every damn little thing from the games like "finish him", and how about "fatality"? Cheesy as hell if you ask me. The Paul WS Anderson film did the same thing too, and to similar cheesy effect. Why can't they just tell a good story and build the characters along the way? If catch phrases like fatality or finish him fit in there organically at some point then great. If not, then leave that stuff out for poo poo sakes.

I agree with Jawa, something like Big Trouble In Little China feels more like Mortal Kombat than any of the films or this teaser (of course we all know where Raiden and Shang Tsung came from).

What I can't believe is how come no one has thought of the most obvious way to tackle a Mortal Kombat film? Basically, get the Hong Kong film industry involved (similar to how The Matrix Trilogy and Kill Bill did this), and make it a big epic martial arts action film with mythical and supernatural elements mixed in. Either get some good western directors who can handle the martial arts (Wachowski's, Tarantino) or get an eastern director like Zhang Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers). That could be amazing.

At this rate, the trailer for M Night's live action The Last Airbender adaptation feels a lot more like a proper Mortal Kombat film than this preview.

Pitch Pilot/Fan Film and it definitely looked and felt the part. Just made-for-TV tone/feeling.

On the nose as hell.

My friend told me he was a PA on this a couple months back, and I totally 100% didn't believe him. But he told me that it is indeed a pitch-trailer. The director is the same guy who did the Fame remake that came out like two years ago and they're trying to sell the idea of a re-envisioned Mortal Kombat to a studio.

Huh. Well it'll be better then the atrocious Annihilation, that movie was utter crap. Looks like this movie will have better fight scenes then the original but it wont have as awesome a soundtrack.

I just don't know about this movie, I have to echo the sentiments about the forced dialog but the casting seems....ok? Baraka is crap but Reptile as a person with Harllequin Ichthoyis (kinda like Killer Croc from Batman) and a cannibal is intriguing. Johnny Cage is good as is Jax as both are legit martial artists, I'm not a fan of Ryan in general so I doubt I'll care for her as Sonya and Scorpion seems fine-glad his grappling hook is there. Sub Zero looked like Christopher Walken so I'm guessing it's Ray Park.

IDK Mortal Kombat's story is fairly meh anyways so if they can make it interesting more power to them. Just do the opposite of the Annihillation and they'll be ok. Also according to other sites this was shot in "Ultra High Definition", which sounds like a MK sequel, via the new Mysterium Sensor RED units-so there's that.

I always thought that "the Quest" with JCVD felt like a Street Fighter movie but if you added magic and ore it would be a ringer for MK.

Great Post.

I'm one of those hardcore Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter fans who grew up in the 90's spending 14hrs pushing buttons. I knew every fatality.

Seeing that pitch trailer gave me Goosebumps. I can see who ever put this together is a true fan and I admire the fact that they’re going in the direction of an R rating. That was one of my biggest things that angered me about the other two films that I will not mention. There is no other way to do a Mortal Kombat film besides an R rated one. Just that alone watching this trailer gets my vote.

But, a 7 minute clip is sure not enough to have me 100% convince. I would need to know way more about the story. But I like the direction his going. Let's just hope a Studio Exec sees this and gives him a meeting.

As a director I have many dreams, and one of them would be to try and make a Street Fighter /Mortal Kombat Film to be identical to the game, I mean not skip one beat. Looks like this guy is on the right path

Now if only they can get Street Fighter right.

Oh yeah, and we'll always have this.

I hate when they rape classic material to place it in modern world, they should do it like it was meant to be,all mk films are bad.Mostly because of design, casting and moronic lines.
I dont like it,its cool that its about scorpion but they did it because many players like scorpion, everything else looks lame, especially baraka.M J White acting is terrible here.

yes mk games died when came into 3d world, they were succesfull because of filmlike graphics with digitalized characters from video cameras. When mk joined 3d games then it was just another 3d fighter. It lost its realims which had in first game.

Mortal Kombat 9, the upcoming game, looks pretty darn good. Its got 3D graphics, but all the fighting takes place on a 2D plane like the first three games.

Oh, and that Jackie Chan Street Fighter scene is bat **** insane. I love it.

I dunno.

It's not the 3D environment that bugged me, it's the cartoonish style of the character and environment design. That's still very much a part of Mortal Kombat 9 according to that footage.

I wish the design, look and feel would be as close to MK 1 as possible, but they can absolutely keep the 3D. Just wish the fighting was more like Tekken, which has actual martial arts moves instead of invented ones that make little sense.

The gameplay and character control was never the best part of any MK game, and still they stick to like glue instead of creating something entirely new.

I'm a big MK fan too. MK2 is probably my favourite arcade game, spent lots of coins on MK 1 to UMK3.

This looks like it could be pretty damn good, I don't mind them dropping all the mythological stuff to try something new.

Reptile looks awesome. Michael J White is a good talent but he's really overacting here, still I hope he's cast if this is made.

Bwwd what are you talking about? The first MK movie kicked ass!
