More noise? Xh-A1 or Hv30?

I experienced the same problem when I first received my A1. Luckily, I read the sticky thread and it enlightened me. Try changing the settings on your gain preset by hitting the menu button and assigning them your preferences. My settings for my gain presets are: a. -3db, b. 0db, c. +3db. Shooting with a -3db or 0 gain will guarantee you a vibrant and beautiful image.

Cheers!

Hay man i really want to use your advice however I don't know where to place them.

like what does the a b and c stand for??

Thanks!

It's in the manual. Put the camera in record mode, hit the menu button, and navigate through the menus. I don't remember which one offhand, but it's fairly clear. The a, b, c settings refer to the positions of the gain switch on the side of the camera.

I don't mean to jump on you, so please don't take offence - but with a camera like this, it's *really* important to work through the manual and learn what the controls and options do. It's *not* a point-and-shoot device, and if you don't get how it works, you'll be very disappointed with its results. In fact, you'll be wondering why on earth you paid for it over the HV30, which is much more point-and-shoot.

My suggestion - invest a tape in shooting test footage with different control settings, to learn what effects they have. Then note down the ones you prefer, so you don't have to remember them all
