GH2 More M4/3 Lenses on the Horizon

Even before Photokina opens there's news that more M4/3 lenses are coming...

I have no idea what I would ever use the Olympus "lens-cap" lens for.

Olympus 15mm f/8.0 ( lens-cap lens )
Olympus 17mm f/1.8 ( pancake lens )
Olympus 60mm f/2.8 Macro

The Schneider lenses look interesting, but I wonder about the price.

Schneider 14mm f/2.0
Schneider 30mm f/1.4
Schneider 60mm f/2.4 Macro

...And these look really interesting. Panasonic is finally starting to think about "Pro" shooters.

Panasonic 42.5mm f/1.2
Panasonic 150.0mm f/2.8

Also, Zeiss have a few dedicated M4/3 lenses in the works, so hopefully these will be revealed once Photokina is under way.

Why the heck can't we get a cheap 50mm f1.8 which is one of the cheapest lenses to make? This is a very popular lens used in vintage glass and I'm sure a lot of people would like to have a Lumix version that would match the sharpness and auto features of the other Lumix lenses. I know I would. Olympus came close but it is way over priced for a lens in that focal range. Also if you sometimes need full auto for run&gun the Olympus is out because of the lack of stabilization.

I personally think the 35mm Full Frame 50mm f/1.8 lenses are only cheap because companies like Canon, Nikon, etc... are selling one with almost every DSLR camera they make. ( the actual numbers are huge )

The same goes with the cheap kit zoom lenses ( which Panasonic does make ) cost a lot less than any other zoom lens.

If the M4/3 manufacturers were to produce an equivalent to the 50mm f/1.8 35mm Full Frame lens, then it would probably be a 25mm f/1.8 pancake lens, which might not be what you're after.

I'm very interested in these two. Time to start saving up.

No I actually want a 50mm f1.8 for interviews. I love my Canon FD 50mm f1.8 wide open but it never gets as sharp as the other Lumix glass I use on the same project. I actually like using the 100mm reach for run&gun shooting as well since I don't have to get right up in people's faces like I do with the 20mm f1.7. Of course it isn't as useful as a wider lens but clearly the market is there since Panasonic is bothering with a 42mm f1.2 and Olympus has their 45mm f1.8. Looks like I will either have to settle for my Canon FD f1.8 or get the Olympus. The other option is the Nikon 50mm f1.8D which is newer, sharper and full manual although I doubt I will really gain much over my FD. So it looks like Olympus may be the only option.

Can't wait to see how the Olympus 17mm f1.8 will handle and what the cost will be. Might be a good way to get that 35mm human eye view in a fast lens. Personally not a huge fan of Olympus lenses because of the look and the lack of stabilization but they really seem to be making the more practical primes recently.

By the way I read SLR Magic will have a few news lenses but I cannot remember where I saw that now.

I shoot interviews with a Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 and a Nikon 35mm f/2.0, and both are fairly soft wide open. ( lots of coma at full aperture, that disappears at 2-stops down )

At some point I plan on picking up the Olympus 45mm f/1.8, which I know will outperform both the Zeiss and Nikon when shooting at f/2.0.

According to SLR Magics twitter feed they will have their 25mm f0.95, 23mm and two 35mm all 1.4 or faster I think. So yes looks like I will be buying the Olympus 45mm after all.

The Olympus 45mm 1.8 is an AMAZING lens, it's razor sharp even at 1.8. It's definitely worth the $400.

What, no zooms?

Panasonic

Panaonic 12-35mm f/2.8 ( new and in stores now : $1,300 )
Panaonic 35-100mm f/2.8 ( coming soon : $1,500 )

Zeiss
Zeiss may have something to announce at Photokina.

Tamron
Have signed on to produce M4/3 lenses, but so far no news.

Tokina
Have signed on to produce M4/3 lenses, but so far no news.

Sigma
Have produced two M4/3 primes ( 19mm f/2.8 and 30mm f/2.8 ), but I'm still waiting for them to produce a decent zoom.

Ah yes. Now if only they'd make a 12-120 constant 2.8 for half that price...

It's actually a really good price for that lens, considering the Canon and Nikon equivalent are over $2000
Oh Erik, don't go bringing reality into the discussion... especially when you figure the Canon and Nikon equivalents can't do video-style autofocus either...

But they're huger and much heavier and more impressive to like chicks n' ****.

I've read a few places that the 35-100 does extend, and elsewhere that it doesn't. Not that it really matters all that much and I'll buy it anyway...
