More Letus Footage

disjecta

Lucky Duck
Used VIVIDRGB preset with the following modifications:
Color Gain: 0
HDF: Middle
Sharpness: 0

White balance was set to default daylight. Evening overcast light, I let nature do its thing with the color of light. Not every shot is in sharp focus but most are. Cute model is my daughter. Applied a 2.35:1 matte. Shot using 24f. Only CC done was a levels adjustment.

Used the following Nikon lenses:
100mm 2.8
50mm 1.8
28mm 2.8

Rendered to a 720p file. File size is about 112mb or so, enjoy:

Really nice.

Was it overcast when you shot this? I'm trying to get a feel for whether the Letus FE makes everything look overcast (due to the light loss), or if it's just because you are shooting on cloudy days!

looks nice and crisp, what would be your advice for cetain preset settings when using an adaptor? not sure about the best detail settings and coring etc

cheers Russ

It's been overcast for weeks here in Seattle with sporadic sun. Most if not all the Letus stuff I have posted has been shot in cloudy weather. The Letus is well capable of rendering vibrant images.

Russell - I posted the "VIVIDRGB" preset in the PRESET thread in this forum. I have documented in the first post above the modifications I made to it for this shoot.

hey steve, beautiful as usual.

question for ya. I can't seem to export any of my HDV footage as to maintain its HD'ness, it always wants to downconvert to SD.

what can i do to export high quality HDV content?

using premier pro 2

Hey Papa, I don't really use Premiere for exporting HD WMV files (I use Vegas) so I would suggest you ask the question in the Premiere forum.

dangit!

k thanks anywho.

i actually wanan give this Vegas thing a try.

premier has been great and all, but i love vegas's color correction tool, its just like final cut pro. then you have premier with their getto numbers.

Very nice Steven. Looks like I am heading down the A1 road soon. Going to Africa on a two camera shoot and looks like we will use one of your settings. Have you used the wide angle adapter from Canon? Is the A1 72mm threads? Can I use my filters/matte box from the DVX?

Anyway, very nice. I would love to use an adapter, but don't know if hauling it to Africa (with a monitor), would be worth it.

We will see.

Good luck in Africa!

Yes, it is a 72mm thread so you can use your DVX stuff with it. I haven't tried the WA lens, not really interested given how wide the stock lens is already.

If it were me, I'd be hauling a 35mm adapter and using it selectively.

WoW. This is the LETUS! I think that's the best letus footage I've ever seen. It felt VERY natural...

Great shots too, disjecta. No one seemed to mention the composition, which was excellent ;)

thats good footage. personally i dont want to step to adapters just yet, since i gotta learn a few more things for now. are external monitors too much of a jump for beginners?

disjecta, do you use tape or firestore?

t-h-e-w-h-o posted a premiere/tmpgenc xpress hdv tutorial, search his posts in the a1 forum. tmpgenc is not free, costs $99 but its damn good.

the combo works very efficiently everytime i use it.

That was very clean and crisp footage. In the right hands Letus can achieve amazing results.

Were you shooting 1/48? How much did you close down to get a deeper focus on the close up?

Good work!

First of all, I'd like to thank you Disjecta for the inspiration and beautiful composition you given us so far in all your videos! It is because of your work posted here that I have purchased an A1, and now I'm using it with a slight variation of VIVIDRGB which I also must thank you for! WOW - again truly inspirational!

Still debating whether I should get a 35mm adapter :) I'd like to keep practice to where I'll get similar results without it, and maybe later experiment further...

After looking at disjecta's footage and others...it was a no brainer in getting the letus35FE. The key is to find fast lenses at reasonable prices and get footage that just can't be done using the standard canon lens. Especially when you want to rack focus and achieve the film look.
