More Information and Photos of Cineporter

I noticed that the P2 door on my camera can be removed...there are screws.
I was wondering if an optional door might become part of the package?
Taking into account Pelican's statement above regarding molded cables.
It seems like it would solve a potential issue.

Looking forward to CinePorter release -- good luck!

"Looks like a science experiment for sure.."

I know a little about product design, and that's not exactly a compliment for such a high-end device. Aesthetic perception is still important even if you're 100% functional. Have you guys at Spec-comm considered consulting an Industrial Designer? I'm a design engineer and have a healthy respect for what you guys achieved. You can really revamp your product's look with little changes to the mold design or mfr costs. It appears to be machined and not completely a molded component (correct?).
You may consider little things like:
*Molded cables that bend 90° so the ends immediately route toward the direction of where they need to go (the loop in the cable next to P2 port is unsightly)
* The bezels you've chosen for the Battery and HDD indicators are used for DIY projects. Consider a higher-end mfr, or mold change to accommodate the lights.
* The finish is,, well is there one? If you want to go for the bare unfinished look, consider a textured surface. (What material is that,, composite?
*The edges of the vents don't appear to be chamfered. This makes it look unfinished.

I could offer more, but feel I've picked on your aesthetics enough. I hope it's received as constructive criticism (as it's intended). If you want some ID help, I can offer some services, or you can take a look at

Most of the times devices are designed by people who are not using it, just invented or implemented, and some times they listen to users, not all the times.
In my experience, as in many other's people too, the best invents or implementations come from a join between skills, knowledge and needs. Some times, not all the times, you can find all three of them in a single person ( a genius) who develop products like Steady Cam, Copter Cam, etc to mention few.
I hope, as many others too, that new communications mediums like internet, permit us to join and get better devices, easier life and excellent work.

Sorry about my english, I´m Spanish spoken person.

I like some of the ideas discussed here. Hopefully the cineporter is still at the stage where changes can be made. Function should advise form not dictate it. Great design or functionality shouldn't be a choice, you can have both. We work in a field where the visual aesthetic is paramount. Your success will be short lived when someone else comes in and provides the same features but has taken the time to design a great looking product. $2K-4K is a lot to spend on something where this has been neglected. Why not get someone on board to take care of this? I thought Pelican brought up some great specifics to begin to focus on.

Again, thank you for the feedback. Our marketing department was hoping that we would get some constructive criticism after we released the pictures, and it worked! :)

Pelican,
We are working with an industrial Designer that is currently working on many of the issues that you presented. Thanks for the feedback.

Dogmeat,
I couldn't agree more. I look at it this way, if function follows form, then you have a "buggy" product that looks killer. If form follows function, you have a rock solid product that looks bad. If anybody here is familiar with our broadcast repair work, they can tell you that our work is not only perfect on an operational level, but we make the units look perfect. Now that we're designing products, we feel the same way. Why not have a killer product that works and looks great? So thank you for sharing our values.:)

As David mentioned earlier, we are looking into a different connector to improve functionality and avoid confusion, such as seen in multiple posts already in the FAQ. The final cable will be more flexible, and easier to work with. We will even try to get rid of the cable "loop".:)

Just wanted to take the time and let you all know that we aren't taking your suggestions lightly and that we are in the process of having those items looked at.

We may even post some of the pictures that we have for the different concepts and have the DVXusers take a vote! If we do that, it will be on the CinePorter™ FAQ Sticky located on the HVX200 hardware forum. There you will get your questions answered by our founder and President, David Linetsky.

Continue the great support,

Hello JP,

David mentioned on the CinePorter™ FAQ that there will be some hand held options. We will be putting up a photo gallery on the CinePorter™ site that has more pictures of the progress. The Tripod option plate picture will be up very soon. We are in the process of designing an option plate for hand held use that provides a handle for your left hand. It would increase stability and may even have some room for the Varizoom remote focus/iris. :)

As far as hand held use without an option plate, you can look at the pictures on the top of the CinePorter™ site (which will also be available in the gallery). When we did the photo shoot, the guy we had testing it said that it balanced things out quite well.

We can make option plates for just about anything, so if you guys have some ideas, let us know.

Thanks,

Andrew Hoffman
