MORE footage from John Brawley showcasing the pocket cam.

..even the pany kit 14-42mm kit lens looks good !

Don't let the optics fool you - It's a nightmare to shoot on. With no markings on the lens for focus and no manual aperture control, it's really hard to know what you're doing (plus every time you turn the camera off (which you have to do all the time because the batteries don't last long) the electronic aperture resets to wide-open.

...won't it show aperture on the lcd....and doesn't it have peaking ? And isn't this the same for every pany m43 lens as well ?

ps.... I'd love to see how the 7-14 and the 9-18 perform

The firmware is very far from finished.

The whole world is watching your blog.

If the firmware is far from done -- the only thought I'd throw at you is -- they keep quoting "220 Mbps" for the Prores422. I know that Proress422 has bitrate options, and one standard is 150Mpbs. Due to the nature of this "pocket" camera and the likely larger target market -- I request that 150 Mbps be an additional option for the Proress422 -- or -- I request you think about it to potentially suggest to them.

Also, your test footage is interesting and fun stuff. Thank you!

This is why I have so much respect for gearheads. A good 50% of this thread is like a foriegn langauge to me. 'Course, so is reading sheet music for us non-musicians.

Ya gotta love the dudes and dudettes behind the lens.

Im glad that John is the one working with Black Magic and doing some testing, I really like his style, his minimalistic approach is exactly what we need to see how this camera really performs In real world shooting situations. I like to see what im able to achieve with just the camera and some sticks. I already know this and damn near any other cam can produce a beautiful image on a controlled set with 100k worth of lighting, set design, ect.... Hence the reason these are my favorite tests. Nice work John!~!

I know I'm speaking for many, but I'm watching everything with this camera like a hawk. If it pans out, there is zero doubt that I'm buying. What am I watching? Well, we know about the DR, but I want to know more about low-light, about moire, about jello. The image is great, but I want to know how it will perform in the field where sometimes you have limited lighting options, you don't have a choice about filming materials that cause moire, and you would like to pan. I am super excited and really looking forward to learning more. And thank you, John for the awesome work.

BMC maxes out at 30 frames per second.

As much as I Love the image coming from the Black Magic cameras I must say that in this day in age it's very difficult for me to buy a camera with such limited frame rate options. A creative part of my story telling is being able to slow things done and for it to be smooth and natural, 30fps and software manipulation can get close but it's simply not the same as shooting 60-120fps and higher.

Red Epic if I could afford it would be my weapon of choice, tell then I use a GH3 and soon to be pocket cam from Black Magic for the added dynamic range.

Fingers firmly crossed they're able to do something about it, I can't remember if the BMC does the same thing - but if it does you don't really notice it because you're not turning the camera on and off anywhere near as much.

I could definitely see it becoming a real irritation without an external battery solution

I reckon the camera's crying out for some nice S16mm glass though, something where you can hold the lens and just let the camera hang off the back.

How long do they run?

Not long, I didn't time it, but I seem to remember someone saying 15 minutes per battery. Don't quote me on that though.

It does show aperture, but with the frequency you turn the camera on and off, it gets pretty annoying having to tap away constantly at the aperture buttons.

It does have peaking, but with the deeper DoF on S16mm, you end up with peaking highlighted across so much of the image that it's hard to feel confident of where your true focus lies. Personally, I don't feel very comfortable working with lenses that have no witness marks whatsoever, but then I'm used to shooting with everything manually.

The glass is really nice, it's just the mechanics that aren't suited to video capture.

I haven't shot with any other MFT glass before, so I can't comment on how the others perform - there look to be quite a few nice, manual lenses though.
