Montage from short film

so my friend ask me to help him shoot his thesis film. We decided to shot all the daytime scenes on super16mm and the nighttime scenes on miniDV. we did this partly due to budget but also as an atheistic choice. We still need to have the film transferred but i thought some people might like to take a look at some of the DVX footage.

This is no way an edited pieced. I just took some shots and put them together. There really isnt any audio other then the music i put in. This is also not that fast paced, since i didnt spend much time editing it. Also there is no color correction. But check it out for the shoots.

Dude, That looked amazing!!!! Literally, some of the best DVX cinematography I've ever seen, hands down!! Well done, well done!

i agree, VERY nicely shot. To me, at least, thats an example of as good as it gets ( for clean footage )

No doubt man. That was REALLY excellent. You know that you are going to be asked about your DVX settings, etc. You might as well bone up and share...

Again, really great...

hey, thanks guys, yea i'm interested to see how it all cuts together too. I wasnt paying much attention to sound or the acting on the shoot since i was just DPing, but hopefully its all good too. haha.

For the camera i used the stock F5 setting. Lighting was mostly kino flows, car kinos, 2 ft kinos, and 4 ft kinos. We also used some arris 650 when we need to bring the level of light up. For grip stuff we rented a car mount (i cant remeber the model) and used some home made grip stuff i built, including a dolly.

thanks again for the replys.

That looked really REALLY good man.

What was the story about? it was really interesting from the montage, I couldn't tell what was going on other than some type of reunion.

just watched it again and loved it again

HOWEVER!!! AHHH lol i kidd i kidd

but i did see something this time, when the two are running around the track. This time i couldn't help but notice the car making its own tracks in the gravel. lol

hey, thanks guys. No, no DOF adopter. I really got my eye on the g35. I shoot still photography with a canon DSLR so i already have lenses. man it would be really nice if old saint nick brought a g35, but i doubt thats happening, haha.

as for shooting film, i'm still torn. I try to shoot film whenver i can, but usualy budgets dont allow it. Shooting film on this shoot was a nice treat. We were using an aaton A-minima with some nice fast prime lenses. Just looking through the viewfinder is amazing. The glass is so clear. But a scene like the car mount stuff, if shot on film, would have been a major headache. So i was glad it wasnt all film.

i dont think the film is going to be be finished until spring. It will probably have a running time of 15 to 20 minutes. Once its done, i'll have to get the director to post it on here.

these are great! The car shots remind me of Collateral so much. Finally saw the Miami Vice trailer today. Looks good. back on track here, all of the dolly shots were super smooth, and the colors looked right on. The music was an excellent choice.

hey thanks guys,

pastaman, haha thanks, i will have to change that. I tend to miss spell at times.

Very nice work! Great shots, especially at the beginning.

What was the music you were using in the clip? I loved it! Any chance I could get a download of it somewhere?
