There are a whole bunch of software options for monitoring your camera. SoapBox is the only one I can think of right off the bat.

Some of them have waveforms and pixel to pixel focus but I think all of them have a little lag time. Could be wrong, I haven't looked into it in a while, but at least it's a place to start.

Preempted my question....I'm wondering the same.
But not for focus, and not for the camera operator.

We're shooting a short with 2 HPX's, mainly hand held doco style, I'm trying to find a way to give the director a feed from the camera's where she'll be standing - up to 15 feet away.

Hence the same question, can we use Macbook's as a split?

With ScopeBox and OnLocation can we just full screen preview real time, as the director won't need all the histograms etc?
This might be all we need....just thinking that we have a few lcd computer screens at school....would they work? I'm clueless....

Sorry to hack this thread but it's on the same track.

-Mark.

Every mode the HVX shoots (SD, 720p, and 1080) all stream over the firewire. You can put it in 1080/24p or 720/24p and still stream over the firewire, but the firewire stream will be embedded 60i or 60p. If you're using OnLocation it knows how to strip out the duplicate frames and restore it to a progressive data stream for 720p.

720pN doesn't stream over the firewire, but 720/24p and 720/30p modes do.
