C300: Monitor unit cables: Why are mine different?

Hi guys

Just received my C300 today (yay!) and noticed that one of the cables on my monitor unit is a bit different then what I've seen on other peoples cameras and in pictures on the net. It looks like they have put a bare fuse box on the monitor end, and another fuse box with some heat shrink tubing around on the camera end.

Anyone know exactly what it is, and why they've put it on only one of the cables?

I don't think that's a fuse box, just a ferrite core which I think are just used to reduce RF interference. Not sure why there would be two of them, though. Did you buy it new or used? Maybe the cable/connector has been repaired?

Thank you for the reply nyvz.

It's a brand new camera so it cannot be from a repair job. It looks like the one closest to the monitor is hinged and can be opened, but I'm not 100% sure and don't want to force it. It also has the letters "EMBS" on it.

I'm not very familiar with ferrite cores, so I can't say if it is.

The uncovered one is 100% a ferrite core. And yes, it is removable.

Thanks!

So it's only clamped on the outside of the cable, there is solid cable beneath it without any splits? I don't intend to remove it, I'm just very curious.

Just a standard in-production upgrade to the design. Someone found that there was some interference somewhere and added a ferrite. Nothing to worry about -- it's a good thing.

Thanks! Appreciate it.

You bought a new Canon C300 version 1?

Yes I did.

I had to change my C300 cable 1 last year and got the exact same cable as seen in this picture.

Good to know, thank you.

Thought it was something like that, just curious about what it really is. Thank you!

Was using mine as a third cam today and looked at the cables while setting up. Had it on there and I bought mine back in 2013.
