Monitor for editing and color grading

Just as with audio monitoring, if you want your final product to be consistent across different mediums...you want something that is neutral, unhyped and accurate. If a monitor seems to make everything look great, it probably isn't the right one for critical work. That's why 99% of computer monitors aren't ideal. You really need to reference a few different monitors if that is your workflow.

But if you can get something looking great on an honest monitor like a Flanders Scientific, it will look great pretty much everywhere.

just an FYI, Flanders usually sells some demo units after NAB. If you get on their email list they'll send you the offer about a week before.

Ok...I think I know what I'll do. Get a HP dreamcolor Z24x with a BMD Decklink Mini monitor and when I have the money (and the jobs) to justify the purchase of a broadcast monitor...well, I'll cross that bridge when I get there.
I sent an email to BMD to know if the Mini monitor will work with speedgrade (I work with Premiere Pro and Speedgrade).
Geani66, did you calibrate your Z24x? If so, did you use the HP probe?

Edit: BMD responded (within 5 min...wow!) and they told me that it doesn't work with Speedgrade. Too bad.

Well, after reading some pretty bad reviews/comments regarding the Dreamcolor (Z24x and Z27x), I will probably go for a Eizo (CX241 or CG247).

Hard to say, but the problem is that you'll receive a signal from your graphics card rather than a dedicated video signal.
There's a lot of MOJO involved in the graphic signal: OS, driver, ICCs.... Nobody knows what's going on.

The MiniMonitor is a 150$ item and does definitely help.
I understand...but is there a real benefit of sending a video signal to a computer moniter? For sure, a video out card into a broadcast monitor is the way to go, but with a computer moniter, what are you gaining?
what I am asking is, doesn't a computer monitor needs a RGB signal to display properly the image?

I didn't calibrated...yet.
The factory calibration's good for like 2years.
But like I told you the newer models are better in terms of bleeding and inaccurate color.
For the price it's pretty good.
I heard that the Eizo's are good but expensive, also.
I'm not a professional guy ....just a hobbyist but for web and DVDs it's pretty accurate.......in terms of "what you see it's what you going to get"
This is what I wanted.
Good luck

Just receive my Decklink mini monitor and guess what? It works great with Speedgrade. Don't know why they said it wasn't suppose to work. Perhaps they wanted me to switch to Resolve :)

FSI sent around the list of NAB Special Monitors about a week ago, in case anyone is interested. Just head over to their site and have a look.
