C300: Monitor Extensions

I don't think they will. A friend asked Canon about it directly over a year ago and I have yet to see him or anyone else with that type of mod. I've even asked my rep at Abel if they have thought about making them and they won't/haven't and don't know of anyone doing it. Canon still has a consumer/lock down the product mentality with their cameras. They're still not ready to play with the big boys yet, in my opinion. Not until they REALLY understand how to make a camera function in the real production world.

I can't believe that third party companies haven't come out with cables and "break-out boxes", yet. I'd kill for a set of cables/breakouts so I wouldn't have to use "The Pod" for audio and also be able to feed a "VF" signal into my Alphatron(or other camera monitor) and still maintain a clean SDI out. BUT my understanding is Zacuto will have a cable that woks with the specialty connections to feed their new Graticle VF when it hits.

The Zacuto folks mentioned the mod in their C300 as a definite option from Canon when discussing their C300/500 viewfinder.

~10:11 in.

They say its under $500....

I am glad to see this issue raised in the forum. The C300 has been out for two years and there are no good EVF or audio break out options. The EXT1 and EXT2 connectors must be a real mystery. The new Zacuto products are partial solutions to problems that apparently only Canon can solve. In many situations, there is no substitute for a pro grade, high res orientable viewfinder that displays all the information available on the LCD.

So I finally had some down time, and took my C300 into Canon for the AF firmware upgrade. I figured that I would get the EVF extension cables done at the same time.

I was a little surprised to hear the estimate for 700mm extensions: $726 dollars.

Ouch!

At least that's an acknowledgement that they'll do it and know that it's needed/wanted. And yeah, that's a little steep for just over 2ft. extension cables. I'm assuming that's for both ext.1 & 2 cables, but still...
