This is for me good enough reason to shoot in 1080p.

Yes. I shot this roof many times and moire is always present to some degree. The single frame still has no issues.

The 720p high speed modes - it seems like the camera is doing some extremely hasty downsampling in order to get the frames out in time...

This mode will have some severe limitations... best to stay away from fine patterns at all cost here...

Holy mother of.... WELL THAT SUX. At least it has 24p, that's a start for now. Once the product line gets to the DigicV processors I'm sure things will be better.
