hiya!

well i have 2 microphones... and the HMC151.

What i want to do?

I want to attach one of my mics directly as a shotgun-atmo-mic. I got the Rode Videomic (+xlr adapter) and the Sennheiser MKH416T + an 48V Adapter.

So both Mics work good but i have problems mounting them.

I tried to mount the rode inside of the microphone-holder but hear a lot of "touching" sounds when working with the camera.

On the other hand, the MKH416 doesnt fit into the Microphone-holder... its way to slim... i read somth. about gaffertape it... not the best method i guess. i also got a shock-mount which is primary for use on a hot shoe and i have no idea how could i mount it on my hmc :)

I want to leave the front hotshoe for my headlight so there is no chance... .

so i would be thankful for any ideas if someone of you are using those mics... I would prefer seeing some Pics of your mounting stuff :)

and sorry for my poor english :)

thanks

it seems like the rode is out of the game... producing some little interferences when nocking softly on the plastic part of the microphone where the battery is.

so i prefer tips for mounting the MKH416.

Try rubber bands wrapped around the mic barrel for fitting into stock mic clamp if you dont want to use gaffers tape.

My problem with the 416 was that it tended to touch the frame during wideangel shots. So what helped was to lift the whole mic-mount using a metal plate with four holes in it. I screwed the bottom of the metal plate to the HMC (using the micholder holes) and srewed the mic-holder to the top of the metal plate. With this solution I'm even having no trouble using my matte box while the MKH 416 is attached to the HMC.

Get an adapter so that you can mount your shock mount to the shoe on top of the cam. Either that or adapt it to screw into the mounting hole on top (which is 1/4" thread).

As said - i dont want to use the hot shoe on top of the cam because my headlight... and an adapter seems to be instable i guess... having the mkh416 and a big toplight on one shoe.

the back mounting hole doesnt make sense because the microphone is too directional and will be behind the toplight... and the other downside.. holding the camera on the hand-grip wont be useable.

so i try to mount the 416 with rubber or something in the microphone-holder or try a shorter NTG-1

I have an HMC-150 and a 416-t with 48v adapter so I guess we have similar setups. I know you said you don't want to use gaffers tape but that's exactly what I do and it works fine. Before I applied the tape I pulled the camera zoom all the way out and pushed the mic forward as far as I could before it showed up in the shot. Also, when I mount the mic in my blimp, the tape doesn't interfere with the clips in the blimp setup.

I used black tape that doesn't leave residue when removed and looks professional/isn't noticed when shooting b/c I cut it to just fit under the mount and the black color blends with the black microphone and black mount. It has worked this way for 8 months or so and never slips out. It has a little bit of play if you try to pull it from side to side but that's just the nature of the setup. It performs fine and I don't typically pull on it when working.
