Mixing XL2 and A1 footage

At the end of May, I'll be covering a bodybuilding/fitness event for the event promoter.

Ideally I'd like to have 3 cameras, but for budgetary reasons will only be using 2. I've got a Canon XL2 and have explored rental possibilities for the second camera. For whatever reason, renting an XL2 would cost me $55 MORE than renting an A1.

I've been eyeing up the A1 since its debut and am leaning toward renting it so I can kick the tires. Certainly, from a post perspective, I should eat the extra $55 and use two XL2's for seamless use of the footage. Just seems a shame to miss out getting HD footage.

For those familiar with the images of each camera, in your opinion, would I be able to tweak the colors enough that the viewer wouldn't notice each time I cut between cameras?

Being unfamiliar with the HD timeline, in order to integrate the shots from the XL2 and A1 would I down-rez the HD footage then proceed to cut it in with the XL2 footage?

And lastly, one of the cameras will be stationary, in a wide shot, framing the stage. The other will be dynamic, as I will be moving throughout the event to cover from a variety of angles.
Given the importance of sharp focus when using HD, I was a little hesitant to run and gun with the A1. Which camera would YOU recommend be the dynamic one?

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Neal.

Form factor aside, I would run with the XL2, as you will benefit from the resolution the A1 has on wide shots. If you are doing CU's with the XL2 the res difference will be less apparent.

But seriously, you should just get another XL2.
