mixing squeeze with letterbox

We filmed two saturday's now for a project. But last week we filmed in 4:3 letterboxed, and this past week with squeeze 16:9 mode. Yes, a big screw up. We filmed it in 24PA. The guy doing my editing tried importing the squeeze into a 4:3 project and experienced major interlace artifacts. with 24pa I dont understand why we would have interlacing problems with this. To me it seems like a transfer problem and not from importing two different formats together. Because I have combined the two formats with interlaced footage without experiencing this. Any solutions? Suggestions?

ive done it. Im not sure if this is the same for all editors, but at least on pp 1.5, i did a behind the scenes where i shot half of my footage 16x9 squeeze as well as 4x3 letterbox. I opened a 4x3 project, 23.9877blah blah timeline, imported both my footage, and all i had to do was shrink the squeeze footage. Not sure what the number was, but i had no problems there.
