MIXING Squeeze Mode with Letterbox

What happens when you mix squeeze mode with letterbox? I have used squeeze mode and had great 16x9 footage. I have used letterbox and had the look of 16x9 but 4:3. when I turn on squeeze mode and letterbox at the same time it seems to make the black bars on top and bottom, and make the squeeze mode not look squeezed. Will this allow me to use the letterbox for framing? or will this record the black bars and kill the squeeze mode altogether?

My final output and hope is to go 16x9. I just didn't know if turning on both features will allow for me to not have that distorted picture that squeeze mode gives, while having the benefit of the black bars for framing.

You cannot enable squeeze and letterbox at the same time, it's one or the other.

If your final output is 16:9, you want squeeze.

Check your display settings

Check your display settings

Make sure to check your display settings, when your camera is in letterbox it should be in 4x3 or auto and you will get black bars but the image wont be squished or stretched.

If you are shooting squeeze however, and you have the 4x3 display settings then your image will appear squished. So you have to go in and change your display settings to 16x9.

If you have shot squeeze and letterbox footage and you want it all in the same project just open up a 16x9 project in whatever NLE your using and scale up the letterbox 33%.
