Mixing Panasonic HD and Sony HDV

I recently finished a shoot with the HVX as the main camera - but for a portion of the shoot- three tapes, I shot with a second camera - a Sony HDV camera. Does anyone know if I can edit these within the same timeline in Final Cut Pro? Or do I need to convert the Sony footage - and if so, how?

The Panasonic stuff was shot 720p. I think the Sony stuff was also ahot 24p, but I had another operator on that and I'm not familiar with the Sony cameras at all and their options...

Thanks so much.

You might want to check with that camera op - usually the sony HDV stuff is 1080i.
I'd guess that you'd need to turn the interlaced footage into progressive and scale it down to 720.

We used Compressor on a Mac to deinterlace and go to 24p/720.

Takes forever, but client didn't see a difference.

I believe with the new version 6 of FCP, you can now have different frame rates and codecs on the same timeline.
