Mixing GH1 footage with HVX 200

Maybe somebody could help me with a tested setting for both cams to shoot so that I dont have to fiddle with colour tweakage in FCP ?

I am shooting a lot of scenes with both cameras but the footage looks extremely different. I have used colour correction for now but if there is somebody who has found a setting for the GH1 to give me a more similar look to the HVX I would be more than grateful!

The GH1 always has less reds and is more shallow in overall appearance. What setting would give me a closer to HVX look ???

Thanks to all helpful posts!

Not yet.
I have both cameras, but did not have a shooting with both together.
I would also be interested i the answer to the question.

I would also like to know. I have been shooting on both, but can't get the colors to match all that well. I've been primarily shooting in the smooth mode on the gh1 and cinelike d (f6) on the hvx. Trying to shoot both as flat as possible and tweak in fcp, but the gh1 always makes at least the skin tones so much nicer. I know dof won't match, but I would like to have the looks be close enough so I don't always have to try and rationalize that my projects should have 2 different camera looks to them.

exactly my problem! I wish somebody would be able to tell us some settings....or if thats not possible, some tips how to do it in post because also with colour I am not getting any good results. So far I am more inclined to fiddle with the HVX settings because the GH1 settings I tried didnt help much.
I was hoping Barry was able to give us some hints...;-)

I've mixed footage with an HMC150 + Letus35 adapter and the GH-1. Both cameras had canon FD lenses. I might be unfamiliar with the settings on the GH-1, but there are slight color differences. If you don't factor that in, the footage actually cuts really well together. I don't think anyone would notice that 2 different cameras were used. I have messed around with the 3 way color corrector in FCP - mainly with the whites and mids and if you are patient enough, you can get it to match.

I still hope for some tips and advice on mixing the footage of these 2 cameras better...the GH1 looks so much paler sort of, there must be a HVX setting that comes closer to the GH1....

match hvx to gh1

match hvx to gh1

i've got the hmc also, but don't own a gh1.
but here are my thoughts anyhow:
it'll be easier to set your hvx to match the gh1 than to do much from the other way around.
looking at lots of gh1 clips online, i feel that the following scenefile settings would be a pretty good match to the gh1's clean and contrasty image.
try cine-v preset with master ped down around -10, shift your chroma or wb color temp towards blue to neutralize the hvx's red tones, and boost both detail and coring.
that's what i'm going to try as soon as i get a gh1. =)

I've used a bit of the EX-1 and GH1 together in the same project but not the same scene. Went with the EX-1 because I found the image (clean, crisp, and the different colors from the HVX) to be more in line with the GH1.

I actually produced (shot maybe half of the stuff and edited) the video linked above by Matt (thanks for the link.) I found the HVX image to be quite different, but definitely workable.

My advice is to shoot with as flat settings on both cameras as possible. You can tweak colors and contrast all you want in post but you can add detail that isn't there. I've found the HVX often loses detail in highlights on skin, and is also usually pretty warm on skin tones.

When you're working on the footage in post I would advise first tweaking them till they meet halfway between the two images at something that looks pretty similar, and then doing whatever color correction for the style you are going for.

I color graded the above video but wasn't too focused on getting the cameras to look similar. The differences are also further compounded by the 35mm adapter look. I would feel more confident cutting together HVX stock lens footage with GH1 footage.
