First post, and a broad thank you to all who contribute to this forum, it has been an excellent resource for me.
I'm shooting a biking doc on my XHA1 at 30f, capturing to FCS2 into a 1080i60 timeline. Interviews look great, action is good but with occasional stutter as HDV struggles to handle a lot of movement in the frame. This is just a natural limitation of the long-GOP HDV codec, so no surprise, right?
So, I'm thinking of shooting some MOS tracking sequences in 16mm. I'm guessing the Bolex can photograph all of the moving background a little better and smoother than the heavily compressed video codec. But my question is, how best to incorporate the filmed material into my video timeline. Will the HDV choke on the busy frames in a telecine xfer just as it does when shooting the live action?
I haven't started cutting yet. Is there a different capture spec I should be using that would allow me to better utilize my 16mm coverage?
Thanks.
