Mixing 30p footage in 23.93 timeline?

I'm going to be shooting a music video soon and I'm running into a big problem.

I'm shooting 24pa and editing on a 23.93 timeline. However, I'm also trying to mix in slow motion footage that was shot at 60i. I use JES deinterlacer to get the slow motion, only it exports the slow mo footage at 29.97.

Obviously, when I try to mix the 23.93 footage and 29.97 footage on a 23.93 timeline, the 29.97 footage is jerky.

How in the world do I make the 29.97 stuff fit into the 23.93 timeline while maintaing the smooth slow motion?

If that is not possible, then how do I get slow motion in a 23.93 timeline?

This is completely stressing me out...

What are u editing with?

To get slowmo in a 24p project u shoot 60i and put it on a 24p timeline and slow it down 40%.

First, it's 23.976 (aka 23.98).

Second, if you're shooting 60i, you aren't shooting 30p (though both go to tape at 29.97).

Now, as for creating the slow-mo, there are a couple of steps. You have to de-interlace the original 60i footage to what does essentially become a 30p stream (at 29.97), which will slow it down 50%. You've already done that with JES. It must then be conformed to 24p (23.976), which can be done in Cinema Tools, and will slow the footage down another 10% of the original speed (so you end up with 40% playback speed inthe end).

Here's another method.

Yeah I saw it was .98 not 93 after I posted it :P

Anyway, I actually figured this out before you told me, and I guess it was right! It was a bit of a strange way to do it but I guess it works. It's good to know I'm doing it right.

The second method seems a little more complicated, but I'll be sure to try it.

Thanks a ton for the help! You really know your stuff, C2V!

Deinterlace 60i to 60p then slow down to 0.4 speed, or deinterlace 60i to 30p and slow down to 0.8 speed. The result will be 0.4 slomo or 0.8 slomo of your original footage.
