So I found out that I can transfer songs from my ipod to my computer at work without using any sketchy 3rd party stuff that begs, "Is this really ok?" The question I have is, "Is this an okay thing to do?" It's my music that I put on my ipod, so it's not like I'm pirating anything. And I'll be the only one using it (others can hear it, I guess, but only if I turn it up). Seemingly this sounds fine. But it's a very round-about way of doing it. Almost like you have to google it to do it right. With that point, wouldn't apple make it more convenient to do if it was right? Make sense? I just don't want to do anything wrong, and I figured you guys might be a little more versed in this...

Apple allows you to authorize up to 5 computers on iTunes, and you can move any of your purchases between those computers.

Apple doesn't generally enable transfers from iPod to computer, though. To transfer iTunes purchases from one authorized computer to another typically requires a portable drive.

Apple allows you to authorize up to 5 computers to play DRM-protected music you purchased from the ITMS. Anything you ripped yourself from your CD collection is fair game to transfer to as many of your computers as you like, assuming it's for personal use, of course. And with ITMS going DRM-free, I'd guess even that 5 compute limit won't matter -- but I haven't tried it (nor can I with only 2 computers), so don't take that as a guess.

And don't feel bad about using a third-party utility to move songs from your iPod to a computer. Just because Apple did write the tool doesn't mean there's anything inherently wrong in doing the transfer.
