Missing my GH1... Used a T2i last night.

the GH13 ACTS UP when less light is available. I'm not just saying that it isn't very good....it flat out DROPS THE BALL. The T2i on the other hand, though not STELLAR (as 5d Mark II and RED w/Mysterium)...it's more acceptable.

Yup. It's true. What if I want a shoot lit by a single candle, or a single lightbulb? I understand that lighting is absolutely important, but the GH1 doesn't allow us to be "free", so to speak, artistically, if we want to shoot professionally, on purpose, in a low light environment. These are the situations the GH1 needs a friendlier low-light companion camera, such as the T2i or 5dmkII.

hdmi out people, hdmi out ...

all I'm saying is both cams have strengths and weaknesses

and both will be worth sweet f. all by this time next year

buy-use-flip

don't fall in love with them

Another thing I'll mention about the T2i, for better or for worse I guess, is that it records to H.264 natively. This is convenient because you can just drag files from your camera straight into Final Cut for editing (no pulldown, no transcoding needed)... however, since it's H.264 it doesn't play super nice within FCP... you have to render as you go with your color correction, etc. Vs. the GH1 with ProRes, where you can edit natively in FCP.

Some serious ball dropping in the opening scene of this vid.

(sigh) the advantage the Canons have over the Panasonic is higher ISOs..so it's not a night and day difference. Uness you are going to be using something like Neat Video in post...then everything else (light wise) is equal between the two cams. The Canons would really have more of an advantage if those higher ISOs were ...um...clean. But...if one wants to argue about low light Kahonas then why not bring the Nikons in the mix...the light advantage in that camera (vs any other DSLR) is literally more like night and day... Though the size of the video is smaller the higher ISOs in the Nikon is.... more usable.

...and yes...outside of Nikon I've owned the other two cams.

Geezus this gets old.

Why can't people just be happy with the camera they bought instead of feeling the need to bash someone else's? Does it REALLY make you feel superior? I know this is a Panny site, but holy crap, do we have to go through this EVERY TIME Panasonic releases a new camera that the masses can afford?

The fanboism on this site is out of ALL proportion to what the cameras can actually do. And dammit, I own 2 Panasonics.

You love a girlfriend, not a camera. When you start dressing your camera up in frilly lace and making cooing noises it's time to pry those sweaty hands off the lcd and seek some help. :)

Yes it does. If people love their cameras so much why do they spend more time posting then shooting and sharing work?
Same reason why some people get pets -- they are good subjects for chitchat.

My poodle has shiniest and curliest hair of all and would win the Eukanuba Championship if I didn't spend so much time on the internet talking about it :)

Do you know the expression 'carrying' when it comes to Cinematography?

You have a small light source, then you add a light out of frame to make it look like the light is coming from the small light source.

I understand this need to be free, but I'm coming from a 1/4" HDV camera that is rated below ISO100 to a camera that will allow me to use ISO800 with a huge sensor. That's some serious evolution!

Let's not throw all the responsibility towards technology. Well, at least not while we don't have a M-X sensor in our possession.

It can also be the OP's opinion... Can't it?

We all use different cameras and we all love different cameras.

Let's all live with different opinions...

You think there are pet forums where people post about how much they like their shar-pei so much more then their chihuahua? :)

I wouldn't be surprised.

Absolutely, because I promise you there will be a far prettier girl that is a much cheaper date in six months to a year. That is just the way this thing has gone for the last five years.

Remember these things are TOOLS, not objects of affections.

alrighty, then....

we gotta protect panny, let me tell you:

The native GH1 codec is one of the worst ever released, imo.
