Just wanted to give a shout-out... My (hacked!) GH1 is on location in Kenya right now and I had to shoot an event last night... rented a T2i from a place in Portland, and I must say that compared to the GH1, this thing was an absolute pain to use. I'm sure part of it was just getting used to the ergonomics of the thing, but seriously... I didn't know how good I had it. That perfect crazy silent autofocus on the kit lens really is a thing of beauty. + stabilization, + reticulating LCD, + super high bitrate recording with hack... GH1 rules!

Can't wait to get it back. Sometimes distance makes the heart grow fonder!

yep. t2i can't compare to gh1.......

I own both. I love both. GH13 ROCKS thank to the hack. Ergonomics speaks for its self. Auto focus....better than nothing. Taking photos? T2i all the way. Less light available? T2i again. Everything else: GH13. :)

These Canon cameras are stills cameras, no question on that. I have a 7D because I do both, but if I only get one for video there's never any question on which one.

stills?? This is dvxuser buddy not photo forums lol. who cares about stills. it's all about the film here. GH13 blows T2i out of the swimming pool clutching its rubber ducky

yeah but let's not forget about timelapse...that's implemented into our great works of art that we call "film" right??

anyways 'film' is just a series of pictures right? .....still pictures? ....photos?

and let's be clear neither the gh1 or t2i are using 'film' at all.....:)

ok now that I've hosed your 't2i bashing' (all in good fun of course), let me just say, Before you misconstrue my post---I know exactly what your saying, and I know when you say 'film' you mean it as a term, but not to be taken literal I GET IT!!!
And I too am a devoted GH13 user/lover!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

These types of "fanboy" posts are really lame . I enjoy still photography as much as I do motion. Oh and looky there imagine a Still Photography sub forum here on DVX user/ I dont own either of these cameras but I'm pretty sure I could make some art with either one. This is all starting to be like my dad can beat up your dad.

i know i was mostly kidding. t2i is nice also, sort of the bumblebee to GH13's OPTIMUS PRIME as philip bloom would say ;-)

sounds like lazy when you use autofocus to me.. :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

Sometimes auto-focus is a good thing.

If the technology behind the auto-focus is right and reliable and you're in a run and gun situation (specially if it's a documentary) you can just focus on framing and exposure and leave the rest to the machine.

speak for yourself...

Many if not all of the great painting masters of all times also did sculpting, ceramic work or many other creative endeavors. I feel the same passion for both motion and stills image creation. As a matter of fact many directors and cinematographers started as still photographers. I feel that to be a good artist you have to expand your skills and talent. Otherwise you are one dimensional at best.

actually, I've grown a whole new appreciation for stills photography since my first GH1 last summer, - it's really a whole different beast, I love being able to flip back and forth between video(or should I say - digital cinema) and stills with a twist of a switch. There is a lot to be said about bringing a still photo to life. Something with no movement, no sound, no variation, just ....still. There is a lot of genius work out there that can tell an entire story within one frame....that's skills....I'm a fan of both really

That's what I am talking about, the best of both worlds in a single camera. I love it.

I think I agree. I did notice the nice low light capability of the T2i. The good ol' GH1, even with the hack, just needs light to look good... especially with motion shots.

As any pro level shoot does. People think that the camera should produce light, no, lighting produces light. Any production needs to light properly for the footage to look good. That goes for real film as well as digital film.

So true. Funny thing. The DSLR craze has closed the gap between "videographer" and "cinematographer"....the CORE link here is PHOTOGRAPHY anyone who doesn't get that connection just doesn't know ANYTHING. Honestly...if you want to improve your cinematic skills...photography is ONE (not all) of the best things you can focus on to refine your craft.

Very true. Lighting is VERY important...(funny, it's very apparent in BOTH photography and cinematography)...it's one of the main differences between a "hack" and an "artist". That being said, (and please note that I LOVE my GH13...) the GH13 ACTS UP when less light is available. I'm not just saying that it isn't very good....it flat out DROPS THE BALL. The T2i on the other hand, though not STELLAR (as 5d Mark II and RED w/Mysterium)...it's more acceptable.

If you don't own both and shoot with both DON'T EVEN BOTHER ADDRESSING THIS WITH A RESPONSE. I'm TELLING YOU that if you sat in my kitchen with both cameras and shot for 5 seconds WITH THE SAME LENS and SAME SETTINGS....it's NOT CLOSE. ANYONE who has shot with these 2 side by side was witnessed it and noted it. NO BIG DEAL. Which camera will I be shooting with today? GH13 hands down. What if I'm in conditions that are lower light and I can't control it? T2i hands down.
