missing mfx video

I have incomplete Contents of one crucial P2 Card and fear that the clips are permanently corrupted.
I was shooting verite documentary scenes in the field this weekend, downloading P2 Cards to a P2 Store and, each night, downloading the Store to an external firewire drive, using P2 Genie at 400 speed. This was a mistake, I fear, because I couldn't verify the media. I probably should have used P2 Log, no?
Once I returned to town I began importing the external drive contents (49 P2 Cards) into FCP. For two of the cards I received the sickening "one or more p2 clips failed to import; probable incomplete or corrupt clips" message.
I hadn't re-formatted the Store from the last day of shooting and was able to recover the clips on one of the cards that was still stored there; but the other card was from an earlier day and thus only on the external drive. Its Contents folder contains complete XML files in the Clips subfolder, but is missing 9 out of 11 MFX Video files.
Per Panasonic technical support I saved that Card's contents back to a P2 Card and tried "repairing" the clips in camera. The thumbnails are there but only two clips play (the ones, obviously, with the MFX Video files). I'm not sure I did it properly but none of the other 9 clips were repairable. Has anyone been able to "repair" a clip in camera?
Because one of the card's Contents were in tact on the P2 Store I'm thinking that the corruption occurred en route to the external drive. It might have been P2 Genie. The hard drive. The cable....
I'm assuming that without the MFX files I'm screwed. Is this correct? What causes this? I am losing confidence in this technology.

I had something similar happen and lost two "reels" and have to do another shooting day because of it, but some things are lost that can't be recreated...even moreso with you doing a documentary. I'm sorry for your loss.

The P2 store I was using was saying there was plenty of room for the cards, but then it errored and the error was saying that there wasn't enough space to accept cards. Then it wouldn't let me boot it to my computer.

Scary stuff. i used to get scare about flashing my film rolls, etc, but this is even more unsettling.

I wish I could tell you that there is a fix, but I don't know of one. Maybe somebody with lots of P2 experience can shed some light.

Why does this happen?

Why does this happen?

Barry, anyone:
How does a clip lose its MFX file? Is it P2 Genie? The card? How unstable is this workflow, afterall?
