Misc. hawaii stuff

Nothing special, just a few grabs of miscellaneous things. All handheld stuff, didn't even have a tripod, my camera was there as backup for the main camera so I didn't bring a tripod or anything. So it's just some lousy handheld shots off the hotel balcony, and some shots of Waimea falls, but the scenery is nice. Pieced together in Edius; just clips laid on the timeline so no Richard Darge-caliber editing! :) I used the white balance filter to punch up the color saturation on some of the clips; others I did in-camera. The last clip is a whale lazily floating on his/her side and slapping the waves with a flipper. That shot was taken off the hotel room balcony, so it was pretty cool for a desert-dweller like me to see a whale that close.

All shots 720/24pN.

Looks great barry! I love the detail in the wide shots. And that's some very steady footage for not having a tripod. How about you take me to Hawaii next time and I'll let you use my tripod :)

Looks great in the shot with the palm in the foreground about four? stops over the jungle background. Nice.

157MB! Thanks Barry!
Ever since I visited Oahu and Maui a few years ago I have had "Shoot a movie in Hawaii" on my list of things that MUST be done. You don't even need a production designer. Nature took care of that!

Any reason you shot this in 720 other than saving space on the P2?

Watch your horizon lines :)

First, I am jealous, of course. Second, you seem to have erred towards underexposure in these shots. When I have underexposed with the DVX, not only do the colors saturate but the noise increases. Obviously, you've got some luscious colors going on but when you look at this on an HD monitor, are you noticing noise also? It's hard to tell on a computer monitor.

Anyway, thanks for sharing. Please send along your HVX when you are done :)

Barry, you are so evil man. Here we are suffering in this bad weather while you are enjoying these beauitful beaches.
Actually, it brightened my day. Probably the best footage i have seen from this camera yet. Keep up the good work.
Just wish it had been a .mov clip so i could play with it in after effects.
To the NAB and beyond..............................................

I am wiping the drool off my screen. Yes what were the secret sauce settings? The light in Hawaii does not hurt either! I am packing my swim trunks right now. Never saw such a great .wmv, please share your technical output secrets as well!

Barry

Are you using a Grad or ...................................... ?

I cannot believe how luscious the sky is.

Barry, you were here in Hawaii! Next time, let us locals know so we can either show you around some and maybe get an island HVX-200 boot-camp going over here. You could probably come down as part of one of University of Hawaii's Outreach program, which is an extension of the film school here - they bring in people frequently (last person was Dov S-S Siemens of the 2-Day Film School fame)

Anyway, drop me a line if you're in the islands, I can at least direct you to some of the better beaches, lookouts, etc. Aloha!

BTW, there's a few of us in the islands now with an HVX-200 and the M2 adapter. Trying to get footage together soon, but won't have the adapter for a few weeks yet.

Bandwidth exceeded. Check back in a week...

John & others, remember that I did a little post tweak. No grad involved or anything like that, but I did bump up saturation and increase contrast a bit on about half the shots, the other half are raw. Could have accomplished the same look in-camera by dropping the master ped and raising the chroma level, but I didn't want to over-do it in-camera.

And yes, that horizon isn't quite level in a few shots, is it? :embarasse

I was just sayin'.... didn't mean to make you sad. :crybaby: Oh darn, now you've gone and made me cry.
