mirror, mirror

Hey. I'm doing a film where the character is looking into a mirror but sees a different reflection other than his own. ANy ideas on how to achieve this? Split screen, matte it in, no mirror present only a frame???

You need to move the camera to an off angle.

Whoever sees the camera in teh mirrow, will themselves be on camera. so have your actor/esses stand on their marks and find a place where only the people you want in the frame can be seen. If you want them both in the scence (such as person A's shoudler and the mirror in front of them with Person B's reflection) you may need to adjust the marks a little too for best framing.

One tip: You can cheat the shot by turning the mirror so that the person in front of the mirror can't see themselves, as that doesn't matter for the shot!

Or...you could use a program like after effects to create a mask.

So, have two tracks (both stationary shots) one of character A looking in the mirror and acting the part. The next shot of character B looking in the mirror acting the part.
Put the tracks over eachother and apply a mask over the mirror. So say the cut with character A is on top, you put a mask over the mirror to reveal the bottom track of character B looking into the mirror.

That's not a great explanation, but it's very simple.
