MiniDV pros, cons

I am new here. I want to buy a Canon HV40 or HFS100 to make a short film on the bike tour in Asia. I have read that people prefer hv40 and MiniDV cassettes.
What are the advantages (pros, cons) of MiniDV cassettes (hv40) compared with SD cards (hfs100)?
Now for me the only MiniDV has the advantage of an opportunity to send home by mail (post) footage at low cost (price of miniDV cassette).
 
I'd go with 83min DV tapes .. more time on each one at SP speed than SD cards. Figure out how many tapes you need to take .. and double it. Plenty of counterfeit tape in Asia and it maybe hard to find your brand. Take 2 cleaning tapes as well. Have a good trip. Cheers.
 
well i acidently once recorded over my good footage, and theres no way to get it back. go for the hfs100 ive seen amazing shots come from it.
 
yeah but mini DVs are alot easier to do not knowing you did it. miniDVs are going out it seems like anyway. not meant to start arguments, just diff technology is changing it
