As luck would be I went through two cables on a film shoot. I use the cable to connect the 5d mkiii to the Marshal Monitor. Over the last two years filming in New Zealand, Australia, Oregon, Washington and Florida I never had a problem with my cable and than while filming 'R' one cable quit working. I grab my back up cable and some how that one quit working. Had to send a person out to find one in a local store (walmart).

I'm looking at cables on Amazon and Adorama. The price differences is pretty big. Amazon wants around $7 for cables which I can grab a batch of them to have as back up BUT Adorama wants $49 for a cable. Is there really a huge differences between the two cables? I know more it cost the better the quality is but $40 more?

I've never purchased the ones that are lined with braided virgin's privates hair, 24k gold connectors and diamonds embedded in the insulation.

I've bought some very cheap ones that still work fine, but I've tended to go middle of the road - for long cables Amazon has some braided ones that are nice & tough. I have had cases where I wanted as thin a cable as possible, so that's where the cheapies come in.

But it's a crap connector and they eventually die - I try to keep several spares.
