I'm about to order the Miller DV10 tripod and head. Before I buy it I justed wanted to check with you guys and see who here already has one and their thoughts. All I'll have on it is my HPX 170 and possibly a DOF adapter.

I use the legs with a sachtler head. Legs hold up well and I like how low I can get with it. Can't speak for the head though.

I've got the exact same setup - love it to pieces! :)

The legs are simply awesome - I don't want to go back to a spreader ever again

The head probably won't cut the mustard if you want to load your camera up with accessories like a 35mm adapter etc, but it gives butter-smooth motion

You'll be pretty happy with it :)

What head do you use? Per your comment do you use this head with your 35mm adapater.. can you describe your setup?

Thanks,
Skipioafricanus

Who, me?

I'm only using a bare DVX with the SOLO DV10 system - no adapter

The DS10 head that it comes with is rated up to 5kg (~10lb) max
If you end up with accessories loaded on the camera (rails, adapter, follow focus and mattebox... plus maybe a monitor) it'll easily surpass the limit; and an HVX would be even worse.

I love this set-up but the stock tripod plate doesn't allow for perfect balancing of a naked HVX, it's slightly back heavy IIRC.

get the heavier one

get the heavier one

I think the DV10 head is not enuf for the HPX-500.
Maybe the DV20 head - I would look it up.

I have the solo and the DV10 legs and the casters.
An extra plate was $85 - but now that one is alway in the bag,
so I dont have to wonder and worry which camera the plate is on.

Too bad it wasn't all the same plates on my tripods and jib.

Anyway - this is fine for my HVX-200 with only some wireless receivers.

I got ripped off some by the Miller rep that sold it to me - but that's another story.

I just got that same setup with the Carbon Fiber legs, and I couldn't be happier. But then again I don't have a DOF adapter or anything like that on it.

i'm gonna get the sticks for sure, i'll be using my libec ls-55 head on it. i'd like to upgrade to a sachtler in the future but can't afford it right now.

I got the Miller SOLO DV20 Carbon Fiber Tripod System from B&H about 15 months ago (having sold my Cartoni F102 on eBay). Used it with both HVX's I had and now a HPX170. I have been completely satisfied with what I have for what I paid.

Hi,
Do you use 35mm adapter or accessories with your HPX 170 on the Miller SOLO DV20?
I was wondering whether the camera is a little too light for the DV20 head.

I'm planning to buy the SOLO DV10 System but really considering the DV20 as I will be ordering a 35mm rig soon.

cheers

I just ordered the SOLO DV10 legs and head. The DV10 head can support up to 10 lbs and the HPX 170 weighs 5 lbs which means you should be able to put a DOF with rails on there without exceeding the weight limit.

I understand that the letus extreme weighs about 3 pounds. That probably leave me with 2 pounds for rails, lenses, and batteries. Reckon there won't be room for a monitor then.

I'm trying not to go for the DV20 head because I do film a lot with a bare HPX 170.
And for that the DV20 payload will be too much for the camera.

I might just buy the Solo DV10 system and buy a spare libec LS-38 head when I need to use the 35mm adapter rig.

I made the mistake of getting the DV20 instead of the DV10. I bought the set with the solo carbon legs and the head has a lot of built in friction drag (even at lightest setting) that overpowers the light weight HPX170. Unless i hang a sand bag from it, the legs come off the ground on anything other than a slow pan. the DV10 will be best with what you're talking about.
