From the press releases it seems like Mike wanted a break from DT's grueling write/rehearse/record/tour schedule. After 20+ years who could blame him?
Looks like DT decided to soldier on without him for the time being. The press releases seem very civil.
BTW, has anyone heard Kevin Moore's latest OSI album, "Blood"? Amazing.
It depends on what kind of prog metal you're in the mood for.
Thankfully, their frontman never sings "screamo" (or I wouldn't like them nearly as much).
My personal fav is Train of Thought - Heaviest by far/killer guitar tone & solos/Bombastic drums and overall in your face prog metal.
Octavarium - Not as heavy/More old school keyboard sounds/More standard chording in the arrangements/More "poppy" for lack of a better word, but still good.
6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence - Most progressive/double album that runs the gamut from heavy to orchestral intros/disc 1 has some great songs-check out Blind Faith & Misunderstood.
Black Clouds and Silver Linings - The album Rush wishes they would have made/Not my fav but still good (Not that I don't love old Rush)
Other albums to check out-
Scenes From a Memory - Full album epic Images and Words - Their second album (with their only radio hit Pull me Under)
Also be sure to check out the live DVDs- Live at Budokan (Train of Thought tour) Great sound and killer heaviness. Score (Octavarium tour) Great sound too but more well rounded song selection from heavy to "lighter in the air" favorites.
All my opinion, of course. but Train of Thought is the best:laugh:
DT made a cool little mini series entitled The Spirit Carries On which is basically a multi part video series documenting their search for a new drummer.
