Mike Petro Presents "Alone"

Hi Mike. I see a visual improvement over last one. I really liked the 'blue' scene and the audio behind it. The colors overall were interesting with the exception of the dining-room scene with the red table cloth. I thought contrast was off there, maybe for some effect with the story line I'm guessing.
It was pretty short but I understand the setbacks. I was going to post my favorite screen shots, but...maybe best wait.

Music was cool. Just wish it was longer overall. Alot of good shots there.
Back in a bit.

This had a European vibe to it.

Very chiaroscuro. Your finale effects were also standout...

Obviously, you worked with what you had and got as much production value out of it as possible. Congrats.

I’d work on script and structure (good advice for all of us)

I appreciate you sharing this with us, mate:beer:

Thanks for watching... there really was no script for this, we sorta just did it on the fly(my original project had to be scrapped) so i worked on the visuals over my last flick, and it worked:) so we entered.. thanks and maybe my next one will be even better ...heres hoping.

You had really good kid actors! I've found it hard to find ones who can really take direction. Nice job! That last shot under the bridge is really cool, especially the long fade away. Visually I think it works, nice comp choices and very naturalistic lighting. The only thing I really noticed that kind of bothered me was the quality of the audio recording (not sure which mic you used). It just wasn't up to par with the visuals. Other than that, I think you had a good deep hearted drama.

Thanks Geoff

When the voting is over(which I think you have a good chance of winning!) maybe you can check out the high rez version see if it sounds any different. all audio was recorded on camerae with a superlux CM-H8A mic.

oh and in case you missed it on your thread.

Review of Heritage

Thank you for making it a pain in the ass to pick a number 1 film
If you would have just slipped up somewhere, I could have said A-HA ... but noooooo you had to keep me riveted till the end, with your kick ass cinematography and your lead actor... thanks ALOT!

Seriously this is on the top of my list great work

i think that last shot ( which is really cool ) can be the starting basis for your story, what if you told the story through the boy's eyes instead of the mother's letter? his reaction to the letter is strong. he might be able to give you a good jump into what he is going through and through that what the mother is going through. just an idea for a script. like maybe start off with that last scene first.

congrats on finishing a film! it seems like you do know something about working the funny buttons on the camera ... and thank you for commenting on my movie! now go and film some more!

Interesting thought

I'll definitely check it out, be sure to PM me a link or something :) And yea, I think I missed your response somehow, I've been looking at them through my regular mail when they get forwarded but it doesn't send them all for some reason, strange :undecided

Mike - I really like your use of effects. the bridge at the end is really cool. I wish I knew how to create special effects.
some of my favorite shots from your film are:

Am I entering spyfest.. yes I am. Contingent that I get the people in place. I do not want to do another 20 days make it up on the fly film like I just did..

here is what the originals looked like... then they where put through after effects 6.5 machine no mask no rotoscoping..

Hey Michael, sorry still coming around to commenting. I know the voting is closed, but this is the best part of this whole thing to me anyway.

In some ways, this is a huge step up from the last one you did for HorrorFest. It showed that you were really starting to think visually and letting the pictures do your work for you. I think if you are going to keep working with your family in film projects (WAY AWESOME BTW. When Aram casts his daughters, all I can think is they must think he's the coolest dad ever.), anyway, if you are casting non-actors, take another look at 18 seconds. I definitely thought the acting was the strongest part of that and if you really look at it, they are mostly doing NOTHING. And that is key to acting on film, I think.

So I think you can get a lot of mileage out of non-actors by getting them to be still and then take the pictures of them to tell the story.

Definitely start working on sound, because I do think the audio in this hurt you. Good audio can make any film look 10 times better. Or it can be a dead giveaway to the amateur act. So get on that.

Other than that, I'll be interested to see what you bring to spyfest. Your last entry had more actual narrative, so I'll be interested in seeing you start bringing the visual sense from this together with the narrative from that.

weird, I said that to friends of mine who have seen both... If I can get the actors for spyfest I hope to bring the 2 together...

thanks for watching and commenting
