microsoft 8 video

Looking for a woman
am i the only one that can't even get through watching this because i'm too distracted by how poorly it was produced? who makes these decisions?

I'll just revert everything back to 'classic' Windows look and function as much as possible anyhow.

Yeah, the production is absolutely ridiculous for sure. Having said that, the OS itself looks pretty cool to me. Will it be adopted smoothly? Probably not, but I'm excited to give it a go.

Seriously?

The presentation was well done. They obviously weren't trying to win production quality awards. They're trying to connect with users.

If the presentation was all glitz the comments would probably be that MS is stone cold and can't communicate to the little guy like humans. Geez. Grow up.

The presentation was not well-done because integral pieces of a presentation (i.e. camera work, framing, sound) were very poor quality, especially for a multi-billion dollar company.

No one here was expecting glitz, I don't think. But finesse? Polish? Yes. And that's not asking much.

Uh, it's a blog. The guy says it up front. So production value wasn't that much of a concern. Though, yes, they should buy Barry's audio DVD, or at least have someone in the office who knows someone who has more professional video skills. I mean, it's Microsoft.

As to the OS, I actually think for a tablet or phone, it's not a bad direction. And making much use of HTML5 is a good idea. But for a computer? Even a laptop? I don't know. Average people are going to have a real hard time with this interface.

It seems to me that ever since Gates stepped away Ballmer has made one blunder after another and made himself look like an idiot several times, so let's hope for their sake of MS they can take a good step forward with this.

I can't imagine it would take a big budget or much know how to buy/hook up a simple lav. Blog or not... when you're microsoft I feel like it's fairly foolish to not put at least a little time/money into this kind of thing.

Sorry, but the opening sequence has the "lead" buried in the BG. An extremely simple lighting change would fix this. Of course have only seen 15 secs. of the promotion.......This from a gun/audio guy. Already a "fail" on production. IMO. Refuse to see more. They had their chance to "grab" me, as it were. And failed. Of course a 10 minute break to enhance the lighting would have broken the bank. Not. It's Microsoft, not a po-dunk software developer. Anything less than living up to their own reputation only enhances the dislike to MS. Figured they would have explored that research avenue. Guess not. It comes down to Mac vs. Pc. and even those lines are blurred now. Gonna keep Mac only until forced at gunpoint to change. Jobs sold us out.

LOL, now wonder why I am Mac based? Strangely disappointing. I have the unknowing knowledege MS paid probable paid tens of thousands for this spot, as you understand. But they paid this schlep for crap that is below intro level. Personally disgusting. A little forelighting, dropping a stop or two, But I didn't shoot this. Maybe washing it out was the goal here. Who knows? A statement that maybe MS knows best? Or they don't care?

Now see why I am Mac based? As a film-maker, that footage solidified my position. "Who gives a sh^& about the end user unless they have specific parameters and have spent the money to upgrade, ad nasueum." Give them a generic representation. Who cares how the scene is lit, right? Buy, buy, buy. It's the latest and greatest.

Oh, please. Come on, guys. I don't see any reason to act so elitist over a simple video for the Windows team's blog. For all you know they didn't want it to look like they worked really hard on the video and instead were spending their time, you know, working on their operating system.

Did you see the bit where they had the normal UI running? Most of the stuff he showed in this video was for tablets, not PC's.

I'm a Windows guy through and through, but they need to hire some people from this site to handle the video work.
