microphone suggestions

Whats up fellow HMC users? Just a quick question. I have an upcoming gig that involves capturing both video and audio of a drumming exposition. Theres no sound board at the event and the drums are not mic'd, so my only option is to use an external mic. This will be my first mic investment. Any suggestions on what external mic to look into that will capture the best sound at a reasonable price? :embarasse

The best mic and a reasonable price don't always go hand in hand.

Whichever you get, make sure is has a built-in low-cut filter. That will reduce popping. Although, as far as the HMC150, I'm not sure if that would even help based n what others are saying. Rode's have LC filters, but one person said he still had mic problems.

You can never go wrong with a Sennheiser ME66 or maybe due to size constraints on the HMC150, you may need to go with the ME64.

You have to use either of them with the K6 module.

Don't forget to pick up a dead cat or something to kill the wind since it is an outdoor event (I would assume).

You can find different wind screen at this link.

i'm very happy with my Audio Technica AT875R. cost is about $200. its a short shotgun and fits perfectly on the hmc's mic mount.

the sound quality for the price has been amazing! you get what you pay for, but this mic has been giving me more than the minimum sound quality i require for the price. and when i need to capture even better audio, but without lavaliers, i mount the short shotgun on a boom close to the talent and ... wow!
