Micro Gimbal for GH4, BMPCC, A7s - $699 USD

Here is another video, this one about cold weather and the Nebula, I hope to have my final review done tomorrow.

Grisnjam: mounting on shoulder will likely accentuate the up/down movements.

Dugdale: -2F... I would not blame the motors too hard :cheesy:

Yeah I don't intend to use it like that, was just for fun. You have no yaw control with that setup since you can't really rotate the handle.

I just pulled the trigger, there's a Nebula 4000 coming my way.

So, let my experience be a cautionary tale for you: when this came out, I was already working on a DIY gimbal. I had bought three powerful brushless motors and a controller, and was building a custom frame out of hardware store parts and ABS plastic bits from my 3D printer. After a couple of months, I can't get rid of vibrations, so I've thrown in the towel (*) and gone for the Nebula4000. My custom frame seems rigid enough when you hold it and play with it, but with a 1Kg payload it flexes just so slightly. Not much, just a little, but if that happens the motors and the controller are going to find the pricise armonic that makes the whole thing shake like crazy. End result: around $200 and two months of spare time wasted (well, spent on "learning").

* It's not exactly like that because my DIY thing and the Nebula4000 are slightly different products: one is a "traditional design" gimbal and if it ever works should be able to take a much bigger payload, the other is a tiny thing that just works and that I can take with me everywhere.

I think that is what is so attractive about this particular gimbal- mount any small camera to it, maybe even leave it mounted, get it perfectly balanced, and you are ready to grab it and start shooting in a moments notice.

Very helpful Dave, particularly because you didn't hide your internal dilemma at all (wanting to buy one, but also wanting some little things solved first).

Curious if anyone is using or going to be using this with the black magic pocket camera and what wide lenses they're considering?
I have the panny 12-35 - but need something wider. Thanks

btw - I know some folks have had problems with their units - bulging wires, issues with battery life, etc the unit i have - I've had no problem with what so ever.

I find I can get better yaw control is I mount a pistol grip to the 1/8 socket on the side of the handle:

And inverted with an iPhone6 as a monitor:

Been using my nebula 4000 with GH4 and 12-35 and just love the footage from this setup, its so small and light and portable and usable with out any hassle. Been waiting a long time for a gadget like this well done film power on being first to market, in my opinion it is just brilliant! Would be great if the panasonic app for using iPhone with GH4 would go to full screen for viewing on my iPhone 6plus that would make it an unbeatable combination in so many situations. If your on the fence about buying one just go for it, worth very penny/cent imho.

I assume most participants on this thread are aware of DJI's new pistol-based product introduced at CES.

CNET

Cinema 5D

Something that seems to be less reported is that DJI is developing a proprietary mount for the Sony A7s camera.

DJI Website

DJI Facebook

Videomaker

What is not yet clear is whether or not this new A7s mount will also attach to the pistol mount.

If anyone attended CES and knows that answer, please share. Otherwise I guess we're waiting for NAB.

Edit: You might want to watch this DJI CES video

The one for A7s is for the copters, it will be too big for handheld pistol (since it just similar to GH4 gimbal but constructed to cater A7 instead

Hi Ntsan, I assume you're Kyle's friend! I deleted my video from YouTube. With Dave Dugdale's review out no need for my experience which is bugging some people :) I have a cold and am busy with work. But will try the GM1 + 14mm with your settings when I recover. Thanks!

Hi no I am not his friend, just saw he link the video on the nubula 4000 user group FB page. Anyway this thread is really helpful for most of us, hopefully it works out for you! Though one word of warning, the gimbal is not exactly the same for all of us, so some setting may work for some people but not for others using the same lens/camera combo, really need some patient on tweaking the pid and see how it goes

Dustylens or Dugdale, would this gimbal work well with the Sony a6000? Also would the Sony a6000 work well with a full size gimbal? Im new to this area, not sure if anyone tested that camera on this or any other gimbal. Any info would be great thanks
