Micro Gimbal for GH4, BMPCC, A7s - $699 USD

Understand completely Maxotics, my biggest problem is that I have been patient for many, many weeks, trying not to post inflammatory things and have basically reached my breaking point. Strangest thing is that last night Filmpower posted a legit looking screenshot (on the Nebula facebook group which later removed the entire thread) showing they had refunded the money. It would have taken them hours to manufacture the screenshot. But when I called my card company this AM, they had no record of the refund. Card company says on March 18 they can force the refund if the merchant doesn't do it. So one way or another all will be OK and I can move on to another gimbal. The pressure of starting a feature on April 10 requiring a number of gimbal shots and not having a working one is considerable. I can definitely relate to Job.

Edit: situation has improved- see post from 3/10

my buddy just got one of these and ran it on a manfrotto fig rig with his A7s + FD glass and it was very, very impressive.

Early on in this thread I was like "I'm so in on this!"
Now? Nope. Nope-nope-nope-nope-nope.

I'll wait for somebody else to make a competitive version of this kind of gimbal. Mainstreetprod's experience is enough to flip the bit permanently on this for me.

And this alone is why I will not buy the nebula.

I would LOVE to get my money back and remove all traces of discontent from my posts, as I have offered to do for them. I initially liked the device, when it worked, it would have served my purpose well. But all I am getting is "We refunded your money a few days ago, check with your bank". Which I did . The last email I got from them (earlier today) was "I think invert is your problem" with instructions on how to change the PID's. I don't even have the unit!

Whilst I simply cannot recommend the company, and have serious doubts over the product due to my experiences, I may as well give the full story. Here is some wedding footage I took on Friday all with Nebula 4000 Lite (My third model - First two broke). I'm very happy with how useful it is to me, and I'm very happy with this out-of-the-box performance (not tweaked settings yet).

BUT, and it's a big BUT. I'm still living in constant fear that it could break like my previous two - any day, and with poor customer service to fall back on.

Glad you got a good one- probably a case of either you get a good one or you don't. Might work forever if the wires don't get twisted. Sure looks good for weddings, any other gimbal looks like a "contraption" and is distracting, this one looks like a pistol grip. Footage looks great.

Did you tune the gimbal in Simple BGC? Are you sure it was broken? Did you figure out what the problem was? Perhaps the settings were just not right?

I got a Nebula 4000 Lite a few weeks ago and took a day to tune up the PID and other settings and have played with it a bit and am generaly pretty impressed so far and am hoping to do a more comprehensive test soon.

Only issue I had so far is for some reason after tweaking the settings for a while two of the preset modes seem to have different roll calibration settings and autocalibrate doesnt seem to fix it, it just tries to keep the camera slightly dutch. It didn't have this issue when I got it so I'm guessing I just need to play with the settings more to fix it and it still levels properly in Preset1 which is the one I use the most. Anyone have any idea how to fix that?

You may need to recalibrate the IMU again. I do it using the software so I can turn the motors off. You need a level, and some blocks to put under camera-mount.

You can save as many profiles as you want, so I recommend you give them good names like "profile1_150309_screwed_with_pitch_setting.
profile" :)

Also, remember to check EVERY balance after changing any. that is, a slight change you make to pitch may effect roll.

Update on my situation: pleased to report that Filmpower did issue a refund and I was able to cancel my chargeback order. So, end the end, after the communication issues and delays, they are supporting the users, as all others with problems that I am aware of eventually got a replacement or refund. As promised, I have gone back and removed any of my more negative posts. I'll be moving on to another gimbal, something a little less compact and more servicable. Any suggestions welcome, as I start shooting a feature April 10 that requires many gimbal shots.

I'm so glad that I cancelled my order and received a refund. The gimbal seems awesome when it works but I can't afford to gamble with that much money.
Does anyone think that there will be a more reliable version 2 coming out in the near future ?

Also this business of forcing unhappy buyers to remove negative comments is just plain deplorable.

I'd be willing to be that something of interest will come out at NAB, but it will probably only be available on pre order and not soon enough for me to shoot a feature between April 10 and May 30.

Good test with Nebula 4000 Lite shot by biscuitsalive.

'jacksmith',

Why don't you own up to being representative for Filmpower? It's against the spirit (& probably the rules) of DVXuser for a manufacturer to mask their identify while promoting their wares.

Well, it seems this has all been a very interesting experiment - with varying results.

Not bad for a "first of its kind" I suppose...

The market for a small, single-handle gimbal is going to be huge for sure. And there are going to be many players.
This company still deserves credit for taking the hard steps of getting it this far - everyone else is going to have it easier by learning from the mistakes and successes of this model.

I really wish there was an American firm working on something like this. Although perhaps NAB will reveal that there is.

That one looks real nice. Not gonna jump on it as I want to see if other gimbal makers follow suit and build their own. But I will say the pax axis adjustment on this computer looks far better than the N4000.
