GH2 Micro 4/3 to m42?

I know I can get an adapter to use my m42 mount lenses.. but I'm on ebay looking and I see a bunch of different "types" some are really thin looking simple adapter, and some are bigger, longer that look to have some other sort of features.. whats the difference?

Micro 4/3 focal flange depth is 20mm. M42 focal flange depth is 45.5mm. So the adapter should be pretty good size and not really thin.

If the mount is too thin you risk the back of some lenses crashing into the sensor -- and focusing won't line up.

If the mount is too thick you lose infinity focus.

It needs to be EXACTLY the right thickness for whatever particular mount you are adapting.

I got this one and it seems to be working just fine: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002U4PGPI/ref=oh_o05_s00_i00_details

You can get that EXACT same one for less than half the price from the Hong Kong guys:

Only difference is that it will probably take a little bit longer to reach you, maybe an extra 5-7 days.

I can't be certain without seeing them, but the thin ones may be the kind that adapts M42 screwmount to Pentax K-mount or some other type of bayonet mount. They are designed to not change the registration distance, as M42 and Pentax K have the same registration.

I have a M43 to Pentax K for some of my lenses. I just bought a Pentax Takumar M42, so I do the following:

M42 lens
M42 screwmount to Pentax K adapter
Pentax K to M43 adapter
M43 camera

seems to work fine.

Azymth, the prices will vary depending on if it has electronics. I have some m42 mount for olympus, but their like Canon in that you cant chane the aperature without an electronic, these adapters are over 100.00.

Here are probably two types you're seeing:

The second product, the "mount with aperture shoulder," has an internal shoulder (you can see it in the pic) to impinge upon a lever that may need to be impinged upon in certain lenses to enable manual aperture. One example would be my SMC Micro-Takumar 100/4 - a straight shoulderless screw mount would lock the "AUTO/MANUAL" aperture switch into the auto position, in which it would not function. My Vivitar 50/1.7 doesn't have such a switch, and thus doesn't need the aperture shoulder.

For the most part, I'd say you're safest getting an adapter with the aperture shoulder.
