Michael_Petro Presents "Briefcase"

Uh, okay, I am genuinely confused. I really don't know what the plot was. Seriously.

The acting worked. The girls were hot. I think that you needed to either go all the way with the titilation and show us a real rack or girl on girl kissing OR, back it off and go more Charlie's Angel's esque playful sexy. It seems like you wanted to go for titilation but didn't have the guts to do it. So choose your level then nail it.

This made me smile for some reason :) I did exactly what I wanted... dude seriously thanks for checking this out and taking the time to reply....

oh yeah you gotta watch it at least twice :)... and bob wants the case... simple i think....

Lol, explain.

Your mom, wife (if you have one) and various drinking buddies are for compliments, DVXUser is for straight shooting.

So I'm curious how my comment illustrates exactly what you wanted?

I wrote this and filmed it exactly like I wanted it shown...Except for some minor changes .... there was never intended any nudity and the two girls, you where just suppose to think something happened.. basically bob wants the case and everyone is playing everyone.. think of a 6 min version of wild things (with Kevin bacon).. I will probably never shoot a filmmakers movie .. i will however shoot a movie that is cool to me and fun.. and if people don't get it thats ok... the reviews on this thread have gone from boring to WOW.. about what I expected... any way thats what I wanted.... whether anyone likes or hates it. its still the coolest thing I have done... god i hope i don't sound like a prick cuz I really appreciate your comments and you watching the film..

Thanks for the comments... almost missed you feedback... thanks for looking into the briefcase...

Ok, so here's my take on this film:

The great: PRODUCTION VALUE. Multiple locations, an airplane, a sports bar, et. etc.

The good: "Campy" is the right word for this one. And the story, even though a bit muddled in the execution, I was able to follow and I think worked for what you were going for.

The bad: Too much in too little time. A good number of films will suffer from this, mine included, due to trying to put too much into/cut down something longer into six minutes.

The ugly: The acting. Just didn't pull it off for me.

Good job. I was definitely entertained.

Dang, is it natural to go through puberty a second time? I'm 26. Seriously though, planes and hot chicks. You had me at hot chicks. The techno did drive me insane though. I would maybe cut down on the music. Overall, great production quality. Nice job man!

hell i'm 41 :) dude thanks for watching glad you enjoyed it...

Michael, this was a hell of a lot of fun. You certainly stepped up the production value from last time. And you got a dolly :)

I actually wanted the acting to go a hair campier and have them really let loose with it and get silly. Oh yeah, and I wanted to see those two women...er...express their love... :)

Good work, it was fun and I've saved it on my desktop to watch again later. This one is definitely up there in my rankings...:)

This was a busy productions. Lots happening in many locals. A lot for a 6 minute piece (got a bit of that in my own film). I really enjoyed the plane shots. I also liked the who's watching who effect, though I wasn't entirely sure who could see whom at one point.

Thanks for the showing!

SWEET another number 1 vote ... seriously thanks for checking it out...

Being second on the alphabetical list of Spyfest movies, this was my second movie viewed. When I first saw the airport location, I thought to myself "Wow, that's a great location". Then you pulled out chicks in short skirts and I thought to myself "Wow, that's great wardrobe" ;) It was neat to see the girls in the plane as it was actually flying, but I didn't believe for a second that they were doing the flying. Maybe that wasn't the idea though. I really liked how everybody was watching everybody else on a monitor of some sort. Very fun.

Some nit-picks I have with it: The tracking shots are smooth and well executed, but it seemed like you were moving the camera just to move it. A lot of tension can be built with a stationary shot sometimes. The guns were obviously Airsoft (or a variant) and they sounded like it. A little bit of real gun sound effects woulda totally completed the illusion for me. The bottom line about the story though, for me anyway, I just didn't care about the "mysterious" contents of the briefcase. I understand that a McGuffin doesn't have to interest the audience, but if I don't care what the characters in the movie want the briefcase so badly for, what're the odds I'll care about the characters themselves?

Just my 2 cents. After viewing all the SpyFest entries, I still remember this movie pretty well. So that must be a good thing, right? Thanks for making it!

A Fun little entertaining 6 minutes that people remember or not(i've seen alot of fun flicks I dont remember well) is what I was shooting for..Glad it was fun for ya..

Thanks for checking out the briefcase...

///on the guns one as both where co2 bb guns not sure what brand... there is a couple of scenes(they are BW) where we actually use a 9 mm.. the cast was flipped out but the bb guns where across town...

as for the gun sounds on my speakers its sounds like his spine should have been removed with the blast so i toned it down.. still thought it was a little strong... i wasn't expecting people to say it sounded wimpy :)

My Thoughts:

"Not so good FX" right off the bat set up the film for me. I'd highly reconsider your name. Its as if you are telling people your VFX suck before even seeing the film. Like calling an ad marketing firm, "3rd Grade Artists, INC."

Opening shot of the garage with hot girls.. Nice. I would have loved to see a follow up with the inside of the garage first just to establish the inside of the building. Techno music? not so much. I thought at any moment those girls were going to strip down and start an all out orgie with rob. Acting... I think they had potential, but it felt like the lead had just finished reading from the script. Again, i kept waiting for them to all start taking off their clothes.

Michael, I can honestly say that I'm seeing overall growth in your filmmaking. As a whole, I feel this is an improvement over the last entry from you, and especially liked many of the angles/camera movement, as well as the editing. That said, the acting was hurting on this, as well as possibly a little more diversity in age/range that could be needed. That said, I saw in here that you recruited mostly from the local college, so I can understand your limitations of what you may or may not have to work with. If you're able to keep working with the same crew (who on camera looked great), then they should be able to improve as well with each project, loosening up & becoming more natural with each production.

Story/script/dialogue is another area that needs to step up to match what I'm seeing visually. Not that I'm any great writer (so I feel like who am I to suggest this), but try teaming up with another member on here who has some writing strengths, and at the very least have them edit/doctor your script, etc.

For my entry I had a writer I REALLY respect go through & basically doctor it for me. All the beats were the same, but he really helped to improve the dialogue & some interaction from where I originally had it. I always run anything I write past this person.
