There are others, such as the 50mm 1.4 and the one linked (35mm at 1.7)... has anyone here used them, or could you give me some insight on them? I'm considering throwing money on one of the lenses just out of curiousity. It's only $50, so it's not much to lose if the lens is crap.

I'm just curious to see how well they'd perform as budget lenses go.

Just look at the demo pics on ebay.... edge sharpness seems to be terrible. I think you would be better off spending your money on some old canon lenses or so....

Curiousity bits me when I come across these things on eBay... figured I'd bring it here first and get the overall opinion of it.

Thanks Cord, you do have a point... the wide shots look crap... but I didn't think the closeup shots were all that bad. I took a look at the video posted as well, besides the handheld shake... I thought the quality was ok. But, that's partly Youtube as well.

I may be wrong, but I think those are just re branded SLR Magic lenses: http://stores.ebay.com/SLR-Magic (or vise versa - who knows).

And they say that the edge softness is a feature.

Actually I gonna get the 35 and the 25 - I think they work as "special effect" lenses (much like the SLR Magic Toy lens) for music videos and the like - giving you a verry special organic look.

Theyre c-mount security camera lenses with adapters fixed on them. Just like the SLRMagic ones.
It's usually a lot cheaper to get the lenses and adapter separate on ebay.
I have a Pentax 25mm 1.4 and a dirt cheap Fujian 35 1.7
Both have a really cool blurry edge effect. It's not for everyone
but it's certainly fun using it from time to time.
